Ok so this is an M5 x 10 bolt. How ever it is different as it's head is only slightly bigger than the thread. I have typed "small diameter head bolt" into google but cannot find anything similar. Has it got a specific name? A regular m5x 10 bolt would not fit as the head would be too large for the hole it sits in.

Here are two images of said bolt...

Thanks in advance.

It is a "security" bolt for the TT/R8 wing mirror

Is it designed to work with a hex key? (Maybe post a pic of the head of the bolt).

If it is, you could try an agricultural machinery suppliers if there's one nearby. I've got a few machines which use those type of bolts, usually for securing safety shields.

Go to Audi and ask for a door mirror security bolt.
If not take one with a normal sized head to someone with a lathe and ask them to turn it down, take two nuts that fit it so they can hold it in the chuck.

I want to replace it with a SS or even a titanium bolt. The OEM bolt is stupidly soft and the 2.5mm hex rounds off easily.

It's a sort of Cap head bolt. Head is a bit narrower than usual, and a 2.5 socket might be a smaller than usual for a 5mm bolt, but an ordinary one could be turned down on a lathe.

If you give me the dimensions of the bolt I can make you a couple in A4 Stainless, I have some M5 x 10 Socket Cap and a lathe?

Can you use an Allen bolt instead?
Any hardware supplier would have them, mild or stainless steel.

It in an Allen bolt.

The bit where the OP said "The OEM bolt is stupidly soft and the 2.5mm hex rounds off easily. " was the giveaway. rolleyes

Wow what an offer!

Thank you Rob. Il PM you. I'd happily post you one of the bolts so you can copy it.

How often does it need doing up/undoing? Surely it'd just be easier to replace it like for like if it ever needs doing again.

Oops, I didn't see his post further down, whistle as just looking at the OP. Yes, an Allen bolt is pretty easy to get a hold of in stainless.

Whenever you change the wing mirrors. So...not that often.

But mine are not seated correctly and one has rounded off and my particular nature doesn't like the fact that they aren't correct. I want it right.

If you do not take up the offer to have one turned down and cannot just buy one from Audi then you might want to contact Margnor fasteners in Jacobs well, near Guildford.

I decided to buy a pair of new arms and enlarge the hole. Soft ally so it wasn't hard. Had to lopp off a cm of thread for the new bolt but that was ok too.

Big thank you to Rob for his offer though.
