I'm thinking of getting a sports exhaust and/or induction kit (or similar system) to make my baby sound a bit err, well sportier.

My question is which one sounds the best?

Try a K+N panel filter and 100mm trunking on the old air box, its alot cheaper, makes the right noises too.

I did the K&N airfilter at Xmas which is a great short term fix, giving great induction noise. Now need to make the next step with a sports exhaust, would also appreciate any help. Whats the difference between the oval and twin pipe and super sports Janspeed versions?

depends really on what you want & what your budget is - i had some cash available so i went with geary's exhaust & cat pipe and an ITG kit. the difference, both in noise & performance terms, is remarkable.

if budget is lower then there are cheaper exhausts knocking about, and the K&N / ducting is an excellent alternative.

In the next couple of months I'll be going for the Janspeed and the Hurricane induction kit from Sinclaires. I can't wait....but have to....to see if there's a works bonus coming.....if not, I'm buggered!!

Already have Janspeed on my S2, superb sound ( but not for long journeys ) power is certainly up

Hurricane induction kit......should arrive today but is dependent on the snail mail?! Can't wait - will keep you posted in the next few days as to it's affects.

Sounds like the hurricane induction kit is worth loking at. Which Jan speed exhaust are people going for on the S1? Looking at web-sites there are 2, a sports and 4-2-1 whats the difference in noise and performance?

You're muddling the manifold and exhaust.

A 4-2-1 refers to a type of replacement manifold (the manifold sits between the catalyst/exhaust and the engine) that is much better quality than the standard fitment and allows the engine to breathe/expel gases much more easily.

Sports refers to a better flowing exhaust system, usually made of lighter/more durable materials and usually a lot smaller in the baffle department so louder and lighter.

Edited to add: A replacement manifold will increase power much more than a replacement exhaust, but an exhaust will be more noticable in terms of noise and looks!

Have a Janspeed 4-2-1 and single pipe exhaust (made for the Exige) fitted, sounds superb, a lot better than the 'wet farting' noises it was making prior to getting the new system.

Try www.eliseparts.com for some prices on most of the top spec after market systems that are available for the S1 and S2.

Try www.ptp-ltd.co.uk, This company is part of MG Rover powertrain who make the K series enginee. Although offering their own products they also offer the Janspeed silencer and ITG induction kits, fantastic when installed

Wareing, you mix up two parts of the exhaust system. The JanSpeed silencer is available with an oval tailpipe and a twin pipe. In both cases, they are a new design which flows a bit better then the old (smaller pipes) design but only the silencer.

The 4-2-1 thingy is the exhaust manifold. The 4-2-1 you mention is the same as the one on the Exige. The advantage of this manifold is that is includes the flex-piece you'll need to remove the engine movement from the fixed muffler.
The disadvantage of this system is the lack of torque; it's way less then the EBD manifold.
The reason for this is found in the flex-piece. Due to this flex piece, the length of the pipes is not ideal.

The EBD is a similar system but doesn't include the flex piece. This can be solved by a flexpipe cat replacement or a flexicat race cat with flexpart. The total solution is more expensive but certainly deliveres more torque at lower revs.

How many different sports exausts are there - i heard an S2 one day thought it was a TVR till i looked the sound was immense and beautifull made beathoven sound like a toilet flush.
Any ideas what it might be i seen it on a laser blue S2 02 plate with momo steering wheel thats all i saw in Edinburgh if the owner would like to tell me

Just had the Janspeed fitted and very happy with the noise. Not too loud with a nice rough edge when you blip the throttle. Sounds great in a tunnel/underground car park...
