Sweden may be a troll, but he's got a point, if you can have a lotus engineered car for 25.5k which produces about 240bhp/tonne or a lotus engineered car for 25k (how much is a new standard S2 anyway?) which produces 160bhp/tonne don't you at least consider the VX220? I know I do.

I'd prefer a Lotus, and I'd prefer the S2 Elise but I know I'd be going for a VX test drive at the very least. If the handling is similar and the VX has that much more power, I would get the VX.

with its skinny tyres and tonka toy looks? OK, so no two people value the same aesthetics in the same light, I think its fair to say lots of Elise owners didn't bother with the VX220 because they just don't find it attractive. I know some people find the Elise ugly as well - each to his own...

Auto Express have reviewed the VX220T this week, on balance a positive review, and make the point that if it wore a Lotus or Porsche badge, the waiting list would be into 2004.

Production will be limited to 500 a year, weighs in at 920kg, 60 quoted at 4.7 with power up 55bhp to 200bhp. The suspension has been revised to be less harsh, i.e. its aimed at the 'normal' users as opposed to the ardent track fan, a potential key marketing difference when lining it up against the S2, albeit the new 111S has been targetted as more of an every day car with greater creature comforts.

The reference to looks is valid, with greater sized air in takes, and IMHO, some rather naff badging, the VX220T does look rather Tonka like (the pictures happen to show a yellow once too!)

As always horses for course!

On another thread on this hallowed site it is reported that 5 of the 7 VXT press cars have been smashed up, so it must be something of a bad handler? I guess if the turbo kicks in on accellerating out of a bend with roads as cold as they are at the moment its going to spin pretty quickly...
