First post so its a long un soz!
I have an S2 bought this time last year and am sending her in before the warranty expires. She has only covered 4500mls so they said they will just check her but no service would be necessary!

Any tips for some extras I should consider as so far maintenance requiremnts have been zero and I think some tlc would be appreciated.(conversions out of the question as much as Id like 190 bhp!)

Should I get the oil and filters done or leave her til 9000mls and send her to the boys at hethel?

Plus how much are K&N air filters or lets say a new induction kit and what are the performance and sound enhancements like?

Just make sure that they stamp the service book, otherwise not servicing it is a false economy.

I would say that any money you spend on upgrades will not be recovered when you eventually sell the car. Do the upgrades because you want them and mentally write off the money.

Judging by my car I would expect rear tyres to go first at around 10K miles and front brake pads at around 15K. This is based on fast road use.

I would personally leave the engine alone and just have exhaust, brakes, tyres and filter mods done.

I thought the services were 'every 12months or 9000 miles' ? to save a few quid you could just change the oil now and wit for the full service (not that they seem to do much more than that anyway) ...now is the time to sort any niggles under warranty too.

As for mods - well the usual exhaust and induction mods make it sound like a sportscar and you probably get 8bhp combined ...maybe a bit more. Std S2's with that above set up made around 132-134bhp at the Emerald RR Elise shootout....I have a PTP sports cat on my S2 - it made 137bhp/135ft/lb when it was in that spec

Ideally go for a cold air system like the Hurricane (£150 ish) or ITG (£300 ish) ...they both do the same thing but one is carbon fibre so costs 2X as much. Exhausts - bit subjective this one...they look/sound different, but the Janspeed is popular and is around £350 fitted. All the above can be got from www.race-speed.com mail order ...or Sinclaires do a good deal on them fitted www.lotusrepairs.co.uk

As for the perceived performance increase - well it sounds like youre going faster :-) ...but 8-10bhp does help and you find the engine revs easier over 5K revs and pulls a little better

Gentlemen

The swift advice and input is much appreciated.
Ensuing flat purchase is limiting any mods however they are high on the wishlist.

As a result next month will see a hurricane induction kit and exhaust (still investigating this one as looking for TVR like eardrumsplitter with good reliability) but the Janspeed is within budget)

All I wanted is for her to sound a bit sexier and have some more mid to high range pull so you guys have nailed it for me...pity its not so easy with the girlfriend though

Hmm the only time I had a car which was only looked over as it had done so few miles, I regretted it, even though it got a stamp.

It may save you a bit of money, but you've spent enough buying that car, why not look after it properly.
