Hardly anything is available for that engine type.

Even the German tuners (eg. Steinmetz, etc.) have little to nothing for the same engine used in other Opel models.

The same tuning 'problem' exists with this engine as with the standard S2 K-series.

The Euro-III OBD system that's required on modern engines gets in the way of real road-legal performance tuning.

You will fint tuning parts for engines up to 1999/2000, but hardly anything after that.

Bye, Arno.

I was down at the Motorshow recently and could not help but notice the "extra lotus" stand that belonged to turbo technics....

These ppl offer supercharged conversions for the K series (vvc or otherwise) with significant power gains, and warrantied work to boot.

Ive read one review of the s'charger fitted to at previously 120hp S2 - the review was very favourable. S'charging the 111s (s2) gives 215 bhp - and you can have more if you want

More rumors going around about the engine that will be in the federal Elise...

Automobile magazine had in their "rumor mill" section a small bit of text that mentioned once again the Toyota 180BHP 1.8L engine... this provided me with a bit of relief after hearing the GM rumor. I'll post the full text that was provided by Clyde of LCUSA (I don't subscribe to Automobile) a bit later.

Here is the text that Clyde was nice enough to provide:

From Automobile December 2002 under 'Rumor Mill'

Quote"
The Elise roadster will come to America's roads at last, arriving early in
2004 as an 05' model. But don't expect the rakish MK2 Elise; that car's
sixteen-piece front end can't meet federal crash standards. Instead, we'll
get a new, MK3 Elise, with single-piece front and rear clamshell openings
as on the 1995-2000 MK1 car.

A handful of powertrains have been evaluated for the U.S. spec Elise,
including the Honda S2000's 240 horsepower, 2.0 liter four and six speed
manual transmission, but look for the roadster to end up with the Toyota
Celica GT-S's 180 horse, 1.8 liter four, paired with that car's six-speed
manual and, possibly, the MR2's six speed sequential manual.

Performance estimates for the 1675 pound Celica powered Elise are as
follows:
0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, the quarter mile in 14.0 seconds @112 mph, and a
top speed of 154 mph.

Lotus reportedly is testing a mid engine chassis that could, with minimal
effort, accommodate models of varying size and specification, including the
next Elise, a V-8-powered Esprit successor, and a smaller coupe, similar to
the stillborn M250, with a V-6 engine(possibly a 3.5 liter VQ-series six
from Nissan)". end quote

Good to read... seems to be gossip though. Its difficult to see how they could try a S2000 engine and gearbox when the engine mounts in the original longitudinally....

I guess we keep waiting *fingers crossed for the LA auto show*

That's no problem as it already has been done!! The I-Vtec engines are proving more adaptable and can easily put out 240bhp with no mechanical changes and only mild ECU tweaking. An Elise capable of 150mph is an easy proposition fitted with these engines, they also suit the character of the car well.

Yes indeed... it just seems so far away.

I'm aware that the likes of Prototype racing have put the B18C and the K20A engines in an elise, but they are both transverse. I also know that Joe is working on putting the F20C (S2000) in the elise also, but he is going to mount it transversly, with a new casting for the gearbox.

Who else has put one in an elise, and which way did they mount it?

the K20 engine is a very close design to the F20 (s2000) engine and the K20 can make compariable power with minimal alterations. I hope the K20 engine is used as it will open up huge doors for tuning and expanding the performance. The K20 engine is also out in lower Hp versions in the civic line such as the SiR, so if it is put in the elise we might see it a first with 140 or 160 hp instead of the 200+ hp versions avalible. Also if Lotus goes with the toyota engine they might opt. to start with the 140hp 1zz-fe engine instead of the 180 hp 2zz-ge engine. I think the sad fact that no one wants to say is that Lotus probably hasn't even made up their minds yet.
