Late to the thread, but where have the graphs gone?
You guys are right to gather data on engine failure. Heck, I've just bought a 996 with 33K miles. If the cigarette lighter packs up inside 50K I'm gonna be miffed
If there isn't a working resoultion to the engine failures by now, there damn well should be. Once an engine is rebuilt, it should stay rebuilt and run for 100K without major maintenance.

Blimey, picture paints a thousand words eh?
awaits call from TVR...
Well, it's been a while... did you get that call?
BTW, the survey only includes owners. How many of you/us know of failures that would not have been submitted (e.g. factory demonstrators/ press cars [and there's been a lot of failures there] and dealer demos)? I reckon there's at least another 20+ factual failures.

I think you should declare your interest here Harry. You don't say on your profile that you have a TVR so you appear to be yet another non TVR owning anti TVR troll. What are you? Another employee that was "let go"? I think you should say so that your posts can be read in the correct light.
Declare my interest??? I thought this was a public forum welcoming the thoughts and opinions of all. Or is it that my opinions are based rather too much on fact that seems to be giving you a problem.
I do not and have never worked for TVR, but I do work in the industry and since I have always aspired to own a TVR I have been following developments of the TVR company and the cars very closely for some time. My interest, since you ask, is to see fair play and ensure that owners of these fabulous machines (of which I hope to be one before too long) do not lose out because of mistakes made by the company that builds them.
Unrepentant, who exactly are you? You claim you own a TVR yet you don't even put your name! Actually, don't answer that - I don't want to get into a slanging match.

I think Harry's point is correct. That said however, there will be many cars which are running fine which are not part of the survey to make up for it.
Only TVR would be able to audit a complete list if they wanted to, if someone from here does it, there will still be an element of 'guesswork'. However, the larger the sample of owners who contribute, the more accurate the guesswork will become.

Although this thread seems to be the longest in history, thought I'd add my bit of bright news.
Got an 02 Tamora, just clicked over to 28k miles yesterday with no rebuild. I use the car every day and have it serviced when needed. I Just do regular checks of the oil and water and a few standard bits and pieces have been changed during the services.
IMO regular use is definetly good for the S6 (just take it easy until the engine has thoroughly warmed through).
Having said all this, and sounding very smug, I have gone for the 24 month TVR warranty including wear and tear. Just takes the worry away from major rebuild costs (as I'm sure there must be something lurking on the horizon).

Yes it seems the car has a hesitation top revs going to amber light and has twice now hiccuped as in cut then carried on.She struggles to pull past 6k tbh.The car is 2000 x reg and has coverd 9400 miles in total and had a full factory rebuild at 6500 by the looks of the recites i got.Any advice on where to go im south west and need some good knowlede on it other wise the car seems fine if not drivern over 5500 revs.Ive been reading about balancing the throttle bodys is it?and also a ecu flash upgrade to remove the hiccup?or is there any other reasons?Any one local fancy taking a look lol. RIGHT edit to say misfire seems to of cleared and she is pulling like a train again all the way up very strange

If its intermitent and returns to full power it sounds like fuel feed or an ECU / electrical issue not a top-end problem if thats what was worrying you.
You might want to call one of these dealers in your area and talk it over with them
www.tvr-eng.co.uk/dealerlocator.php
Otherwise if you scan through the threads you'll pick up names of some indies that have good reps.

Sounds more of an electrical problem to me, could just have been a fouled spark plug as it has now cleared it’s self. The HT leads could also be a cause of this I have just had mine replaced as they were showing signs of tracking & were causing hesitant running at certain RPM.
The de-throttled chip is a bit of a cover up for worn throttle body's although eventually they will require re-bushing.

I have often found that some hesitation and hiccuping and randon poor running isses were down to a load of short journeys. After a goon run at the weekend with the oil and engine hot and pushed to capacity for a good run things got back to normal!

When was it last properly serviced? SOunds like its in need of a visit to either a dealer or independent.
Ecosnige,
had the same symptoms with my Cerb (a 1999) and it needed a replacement 'de-throttle chip' - it was a free upgrade from the dealer.

Good luck, JT
