Considering doing my own servicing but the one area i havent actually been before is the tappets.

Anyone been brave enough to buy shims / shim kits from RG and make their own tappet adjustments?

How did it go?

Did you need a valve spring compressor?

Yep, i bought the shim kit from them and did my own. Measuring them is really easy but changing them can be abit of a pain in the arse, espically cylinder 6. All i used was a few bent screwdrivers and a big pick. And dont forget a strong magnet to get the old shims out. Realisticly if its your first time doing it once you've got the rocker cover off its around a 3-4 hour job. Dont forget to block the drains and chain area of the head so you dont loose a shim. And if your not 100% confident doing it take it to a specialist for piefe of mind.

I understand how and why they are adjusted, the process seems straightforward, but im not 100% confident because i have never done the actual adjustment before. I have used fila gauges before too and i know how they should 'feel'

But, For example, do you use a dti on a mag stand to find the maximum lift point on the cam?

Do you lock the cam whilst measuring or is it stable enough to get the measurement without?

I do the clearances on mine and you can buy the shim kit cheaper. It's the same one used for some KTM motorcross bikes.

I bought mine from this place:

You can work out when one valve is closed from another being fully open etc and it doesn't move.
