Right in my quest to be prepared I have a long list of spare fuses , relays etc. But I was just wondering if someone could confirm the likely symptoms if one of the 3 main fuses go:

100amp fuse under airbox - Are the symptoms similar to a failing alternator or dodgy battery?
80amp fuse in passenger footwell - Issues with power to the dash etc?
Fuse in battery box - Failure of PAS?

General strange running/electrical issues - Often caused by bad earths in the battery box, passenger footwell and engine to chassis behind front d/s wheel?

Also could someone be kind enough to message me the resolution should you get locked out due to flat battery or other alarm/locking issue! Better to be pre armed with the knowledge rather than messaging when stranded somewhere particularly inconvenient!

Thanks for any guidance smile

Chas,
My experience as follows:

100A fuse partial or total failure: Charge light on dash will come on - might be 'low intensity' if the strip fuse is only partially split. I had two instances, firstly on my Chimaera, where the fuse had a hairline crack across its entire width and showed as a dim charge light....so maybe passing some current? Secondly on the Tuscan where about 80% of the fuse width was cracked...and was just getting weird running problems. Ultimately, with it broken, you'll run on the battery until it too is fully discharged - and you come to a juddering halt.

80A fuse failure: I've not experienced this mode - but I'd imagine you'd loose all the dash display plus lights...and maybe other ancillaries.

Have not experienced any relay failures...but I do regularly un-plug and re-plug them into the board, just to keep the spade terminals 'good'.

Get some midi type fuses for the 100A and 80A. Easily bought at your local motor electrical factors and much more durable than the strip type.

A spare 20a blade fuse in the glove box is a good idea if you have a Tam. If you happen to blow the fuse for the cig lighter, (learn its position too) which is shared with the boot lock! You are right up st street if you need to put fuel in the car and your tools to get in the boot are in said boot! rolleyes

Thanks Shep, although wouldn't be impossible to get hold of the spare in the boot of the T350 I would rather just keep a more accessible spare in the glovebox! Very good tip bow
