speed six engine numbers

Can anyone tell me what they mean ?
e.g. engine size ,what year the engine was made
As I was told that my car had a 4 ltr engine to start with (ex press car)
but when it was sold on they replaced it back to a 3.6 ltr which I have no proof of its just word of mouth
As mine is a 02 car I was curious to find out if it's a later supposedly better 3.6 from 03 to 05
