I had my power steering belt and alternator belt changed last August as one of them was noisy. Half way around my euro trip in September they got noisy again, and are noisy now. Any ideas, dodgy belt maybe. Cheers in advance

2 Things:

Firstly, had the same after my 4.3 rebuild from Jason. He advised that possibly a dodgy batch of ribbed belts "in the system".

Secondly, had belt off alternator a while ago, and my mate peered at it and noticed grit/metallic particles embedded in grooves. Cleaned/picked out and much quieter.

I too have a noisy alternator belt. I spoke to Mat Smith about it who said that it being tight enough to not squeal was too tight for the bearings in the alternator.

I fitted a turnbuckle adjuster so I could adjust the tension more precisely. Set it so there is a squal on start up. Then sprated with a belt 'lube' to help it grip better. No squeal, but it does come back eventually. Quick squirt of belt 'lube' and quiet again.

What kind of noise do you mean?
Squeaking or rattling?

Not a rattle or a squeal ,hard to explain. It shuts up as soon as there is a lubricant sprayed on it

I had this, like you I sprayed lubricant down at the power steering pulley and the pulley drive. The noise still prevailed. I then sprayed lubricant at the auxiliary shaft bearing and hey presto noise vanished. So set about changing the auxiliary shaft bearing...

Put the thing back together start her up and said noise had gone. Go for a drive, come back and low and behold tsk, tsk, tsk. All I could conclude is there must be an imperfection or random damage has occurred on the belt. I have a new one to go on just limited motivation right now. It's odd as the belt is only about 2000 miles old..

Did you change it Simon or some one else.

It's adjusted via the power steering pump, but my suspicion now is like Nick mentioned above, in that the belts got an issue, and there's something causing it to wear prematurely. I need to pull it apart again and look closely at it compared to the new belt.
