Went to start the sleeping beauty Cerb after 12 days, that is the longest I have left her this winter, is on trickle charge in dryish garage. Ignition came on, heard fuel pump, but no hint of a spark on turning over. Usually catches within a couple of seconds. Silver key previously caused no start but then there was no ignition. Any ideas for top two potential causes? Had to abandon for old faithful MG ZS, to get to work.

Battery too flat. Check your trickle charger is actually correctly attached.

Good call, thanks. Charger is through cigarette lighter, battery is under specified so that might be the problem. Starter did seem to turn over marginally slower than usual. Will try again in the morning then if necessary use booster cables.

Result!! Whitey, you were spot on, how did you do that from 400 miles away! Plugged in charger again and she started this morning. Will be using car regularly and correct spec battery will be installed at next service. Thanks!

Nice one!

I have had the same when I have not seated the cigarette lighter charger plug correctly and also when the wire at the back of the cigarette lighter was loose.

Wait till your battery gets really flat and you connect a trickle charger, that supplies just enough power to take you into "close encounters" mode.. flashing lights, alarms, doors opening and shutting biggrin
