The later Speed 6 engine has supposed to have all the neccessary modificationsfrom the factory to last longer before a rebuild?
Typically a rebuilt engine by TVR Power etc comes with a warranty upto 100k/5years.
Does this mean the later engines from the factory were sorted & should last say 100k?
There are a few late/high mileage vehicles on the market with no rebuild.
The sales patter is that the later cars or cars with rebuilt engines are fine.
What is fine?
Is it a ticking time bomb?
Or will it last say 100k?

Thoughts?

If you do a search you will find many threads on the S6 engine. Without wishing to repeat what has been said before, there are some S6 engines that have managed 100K+ miles and some that only made a few miles. Rule of thumb is that the later engines were constructed using more robust parts and will likely last a considerable mileage. Then again, there are some original S6's engines from the early noughties that are still going strong without a rebuild. So a bit of a lottery, but with much better odds the newer they are.

My personal experience over a limited sample of four S6 engined cars, is that the 2005+ ones are as good as any other performance car (i.e. able to manage high mileage). Of the older ones, one needed a rebuild, one is still going strong after 16 years.

It is a bit of a leap of faith when buying an older original engine, but if you get it inspected and/or warranted by Powers Performance (or similar) it gives peace of mind. That is exactly what I did when buying a 2001 Tuscan - Dom's view after various tests was that 'there was nothing wrong with it, they weren't all bad from the factory'. Without wanting to tempt fate, he was right when he said that two years ago.
