...Making a roundy-roundy thing drive an up and down thing tends to push the top of the up and down thing from side to side, which it doesn't like. Putting something between the roundy roundy thing and the up and down thing avoids this, and the finger followers are this something.

NOW THIS I GET!!! Thanks guys.

One more question, does my Tam (June 2004) have the new good "somethings" or the old bad "somethings"???

Ditto for a June 2005 Tamora 3.6 Red Rose...

It will depend on when the engine was built. Example, you may have a 2004 car, but a 2002 diff, as they are bought in bulk and stored. Now, depending on when your engine 'parts' were delivered to the factory, you might have older parts. However, people say that 2003 car onwards were better, but, I had 2 x 2003 cars, and both engines failed one at 6700 miles and one at just under 12000 miles. I would say, that there may have been 2002 parts in the cars then, but you will never know unless you strip the engine down.

Dont worry, just drive it, have mechanical sympothy, and look after then engine. IF it does fail, then, well, worry then...

AT LAST!!! Now I know what a finger follower looks like. Problem is I haven't got a clue what they do! Can someone explain it to me (as if you are explaining it to a 10 year old please - don't worry I won't feel patronised!)

I know this is resurrecting an old thread, but I was doing some research myself on this, and found this neat little animation that demonstrates the motion of a finger follower with respect to a cam and a valve.
