Ok thanks, going to have to investigate battery packs then, as not going to wire anything up to a permanent live. Low battery voltage in really cold weather throws enough wobbles at Jaguar Land Rover technology without any help from me.
I would say that the hard wire kit I bought (which was linked from the seller Techmoan links to) certainly works - by the time I had it all wired together (I was fitting a new stereo at the same time), with the doors open and the interior lights on for most of that time*, when I came to turn the ignition on to check the stereo and the car's heater fans etc started up as well, I heard the dashcam turn itself off (it plays a "goodbye" tinkle). The car started 100% fine (I thought "oh no!" and checked immediately ).*Normally, you might want to be doing this with the battery disconnected, but I'd made myself a car-specific plug'n'play lead, with feeds for the dashcam and my phone charger, so there was no voltage involved until I plugged it in after doing all the dodgy work

So in the market for a new one now for the Aston. What is the current leader(s)? Tempted by an Aguri Fusion 100 to combine my speed camera detector with my dash cam rather than running one of each.
Answering a few questions that have been asked over the last few pages:
I have a GitUp Git2, nice bit of kit, cutprice GoPro and all the accessories fit.
A119 is a nice simple dashcam, fitted one in MIL's car, seems reliable and less bulky than the older A118 that my wife has.
I have a DDPai M6+ which is a the best camera I've had (started with a cheap ebay front/rear dual thing, followed by a Mobius which was fine until the battery exploded!). It can be a pain to setup on Android due to issue with the Android Wifi stack, but it is fire and forget. My ciggie lighter is permanently live so I have just left it plugged in for the park mode. It will flatten the battery over a few days, but the latest firmware update has an option to switch off after 24 hours which is perfect.

That Citroen install is along the lines of what I'd like to see more manufacturers offer as I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to keep my the interior as OEM looking as possible, I hate having phone cradles, chargers, sat navs or a dashcam hanging down with power leads attached etc cluttering up the cabin.
BMW do a dealer fit option but it's just their own branded dashcam basically so no more integrated than anything else, and its not cheap.
For a more integrated look there's these dash cams that support certain mainly German models
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hidden-WIFI-HD-1080P-12V...
They look a nice neat solution but I'm not sure of their recording quality or reliability, anyone tried them?
Not knowing these also existed for the A4 at the time, I fitted a Mobius with the lens remotely fitted into the housing on the back of the rear mirror and the mobius itself up in the sunglasses holder about 6" away by the interior light. The install works well but unfortunately the Mobius seems to generate a bit of RF interference which knocks out DAB a lot of the time, so I tend not to have it powered on now.

Going to have to get my arse in gear on this, some thieving 3.14key bar stewards tried to have it away with the exhaust cat on the shopping trolley the other night. Disturbed by the dog I reckon before they could get anywhere, but they'd sprayed the connections with release fluid, left the spanner still attached when they scampered. No dabs unfortunately. Gutter scum, nicking a cat off that would effectively write the car off I guess.
House cctv too needed.

Hi all i`m looking to get a dashcam up to around £100 maybe slightly more. What is the best to go for as i really have not got a clue and all the reviews of different makes are just mind boggling. Thanks in advance
What do you want from it?Techmoan is a good place to start for reviews.

If you want bells and whistles, DDPai M6+. If you want something simpler but does the important stuff, the A119. All IMHO.
Do you want a particular style/shape of camera you want (wedge, barrel, upright etc) as that will dictate what might be recommended? I was hoping to fully integrate a camera into the mirror shroud of my incoming 2 series (see posts above) using one of the BMW specific cameras from eBay but I'm going to abandon that idea and probably go with the Viofo A119 which also easily fits within your price bracket (about £80). Its a small wedge shaped camera that should fit up behind the rear view mirror quite neatly and it seems to perform well and is quite reliable. Others to consider around the £100 mark that seem to get good reviews would be the DDPai M6 Plus and Mini 2 and some of the Transcend cameras. The Techmoan and DashCamCentral websites seem good for video reviews if you've not already found them.

Techmoan says "The cheapest camera that works" (or words to that effect) is the G1W - CI think this is the latest version:-
