0801 users, a question:
Mine currently stops recording after about 5s of being stopped in traffic, and starts again when you start moving.
How do I prevent this? Is it the G-sensor setting?
Thanks
There is an option in the menu settings for 'Motion Detect' which I assume is set to 'ON'. If you want your dash cam to record constantly, set it to 'OFF'.Mine currently stops recording after about 5s of being stopped in traffic, and starts again when you start moving.
How do I prevent this? Is it the G-sensor setting?
Thanks
If you haven't already watched the TechMoan review of the 0801 dash cam on YouTube then I highly recommend you watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdPHXv8Hzj8

So, are you saying that after the incident, two cars turned up that hadn't been near the incident or seen the incident and started accusing someone that they were in the wrong?
I didn't mean it sound like that, they came to help, but there was one person who was intent on shouting down anyone that didn't agree on their side of the story. When I say shouting down, it was fking this fking that at the top their voices.
But we'll have to see what the witness statements say.

Sheepscar Interchange by any chance?
No, a junction in Halifax. The guy who went through on green was lucky, I stopped (3 other cars just drove off) and the Police had the CCTV of the accident, imagine if he didn't have that to back him up.
Using a no win, no fee solicitor, he Taxi Driver issued court proceedings. The case was heard approx 2 years later. He was demanding substantial loss of earnings, personal injury and full costs to replace his car as well as car hire costs. His case was thrown out of court!
My advise to anyone involved in a collision no matter how big or small, is: jump out of your car as soon as it is safe to do so and take pictures of everything, the cars, the area, people involved, passengers etc If an independent witness stops, make sure you get their details and ask them to provide a statement.

I see an Iceland lorry got caught on dashcam doing a silly overtake.
Now would he have been rested by the company if there wasn't video evidence?

Not defending the truck driver in the slightest that was insane, but it opens up some questions.
He had a fair old differential speed on the camper van and the vehicle in front. Assuming he was at 56 or say 60, what speed were they doing? 40 mph club?
And if they were doing 40 , which of course is currently the limit for that rig on that road, then what is the delivery schedule that causes him to think that he needs to make that sort of progress and lead to a insane move like that.
Thirdly when the limit for those vehicles is increased to 50, it won't encourage any different behaviour from the 40mph club, but no doubt schedules will be tightened a tad.
Maybe these questions aren't for this thread. If someone wants to start one then feel free to quote this post over there.
Thanks.
So after picking up on a few early teething problems with the new mini 0806 cam, I held back on pulling the trigger to purchase one. I'd noticed that as well as Joovuu selling them, a previous suggestion in this thread......
After spending 30 minutes on the phone, discussing the merits and pitfalls of the mini 080# range, I opted for the original 0801. Now it's not an old stock original unit, but a freshly built upgraded model of the original, so has MPH option for the GPS model and also the footage is in .MOV format as opposed to the previous .TS (transport stream) file type.
I was recommended this one (by Lee, the seller) as the best of the bunch for reliability etc., and as it's the one he still uses in all his vehicles so thought, what the hell, I'll go with that and give it a try. I was however conscious after watching the 'Techmoan' reviews, that the post 0801 models offered better night time footage and this was still in my mind, but as it's my first dash cam I'd give it a whirl and dip my toe in the water.
The day time footage I got yesterday looks excellent but not so impressed with it in the dark. It performs in an 'adequate' fashion as opposed to being great. But, me being me, I don't want to settle for second best and contacted Combi this morning via an e-mail to explain my first impressions and awaited a reply.
Within half an hour or so I got a call back and again benefitted from great customer service. I had stated in my e-mail that I wasn't interested in returning it as it will either go in my sons car or I'll perhaps use it as a rear facing camera.
Discussing the later 0805 camera, plus sides are better night time video but don't carry the reliability of the 0801. They can go into a 'loop freeze' meaning soft booting them again to cure the it and if you wanted to use them with motion detect/parking guard, they can I'm told shut down after 48 hours or so due to heat.
Now I'm no geek when it comes to anything photography related so asked if any of the settings can be adjusted to improve the 0801's night time performance. Playing around with the white balance may help, but at the cost of not being as good during the day. Always a compromise isn't there
And it's also the compromise with things in this price bracket as we all know, you get what you pay for. But I don't want a big leviathan of a camera hanging from a suction cup mount and I've not found another camera this small and compact, even in a higher price range.
So I'm going to tinker a little with the settings at the next opportunity and see if the night time footage is improved. If not, I'm going to get an 0805 and see how that one goes.
I purchased via the Combi website to buy direct, with some things cheaper than the Ebay shop.
So thanks rich888 for suggesting Combi, even though you can buy these slightly cheaper elsewhere I'll be a repeat customer for sure. The customer service is excellent and thought this was worth sharing.

If you would prefer to buy from ebay then I have it on good authority that this ebay seller offers excellent service and backup, and are based in Leicestershire so rather easier to deal with than flying over to China.

........suggested Combi so looked them up. Viewing the products in the shop on Ebay I picked up on the 'customer service' claims so I thought I'd try for some pre-purchase advice. And I have to say that it was a call worth making, he should have a Ronseal logo in there too http://stores.ebay.co.uk/COMBI-LTD/Car-Camera-/_i....

Thanks for the link, I missed the first time they were mentioned.I have the old MiniHD in the RV, Corvette and Mrs Notwens DD but have a new 801 supplied for my company car, it's good to see I can get a spare base to move it around if any of the others pack up.

Does anyone know if the lenses are replaceable on the 0803?
Has your 0806 arrived yet?Just looked at a tear-down on another site and it looks like the whole thing is mounted to the PCB as a single unit so I doubt it can be changed. It makes almost zero difference to the picture but it's irking me nonetheless...
I am very late to this thread! I've used a Drift HD Ghost helmet cam on my bike for a year or so, but after a few recent events while commuting in my car this winter I want to invest in a pair of dash / rearview cams.
So, very broad question, but can anyone recommend a good pair of cameras?
Obviously a good price is important but I don't want something so cheap that I'll be running into issues, just need them to be reliable, good recording quality, and preferably small and discreet..
Any ideas on how much to budget or where to start looking?
Cheers.

I was about to get a G1W as I'm not willing to spend silly money on something that will stop working soon after the warranty runs out.
I notice some cameras now have capacitors instead of batteries - this seems to be a good thing as for the purposes of a car camera, power is only needed to save a file and safely shut down the camera when the external power is cut.
A battery will fade with time and use and already my 6 month old dashcam can't hold a charge as the battery has died. This means in a collision where power is lost, the final file (containing the crash) won't be saved...

This sounds a bit snarky but it's not meant to be; there's a huge amount of information on exactly what you've asked already in the thread, some just a few pages back. So, very broad question, but can anyone recommend a good pair of cameras?

It'd be worth reading back a little as people aren't likely to rewrite what they've already written and you'll find the answers you're after.

For less than £100 you can have two excellent dashcams...look for Mini 0801 & 0803 on Amazon UK (Eprance is the seller), they come in various specifications but unless you really need GPS I'd go for the most basic spec and order Samsung 32gb Class 6 Micro SD cards and your good to go, hardwiring kits are available and a good idea as you can leave your camera's recording when your away from your car.So, very broad question, but can anyone recommend a good pair of cameras?

I'am currently running a 0803 for the front (better in low light) and a 0801 for the rear, both have been working for many months without issue.

I did flick through a few pages but was a bit daunted at the thought of 120 pages of makes, models and prices

Yes, the Transcend Drivepro 200. It's the current Auto Express winning dashcam too. I've been using it for the past year in my 3 series. You can also view the videos live and recorded on your iphone/ipadhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-DrivePro-Video-R...
