The problem is, it's a knock off of a G1W and will be of unknown quality.
Search eBay for a G1W - they're actually really good cameras.
Similar price, but from HK http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G1W-C-FULL-HD-1080P-Car-...
It uses a capacitor rather than a battery - which is a better option.

Thanks for your advice

Are either of these also knock off G1W's? As for a few quid more they're located within the UK and are also black in colour -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G1W-Full-HD-1080P-2-7-LC...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G1W-2-7-H-264-1080P-HD-C...

I was also considering getting this rear view mirror mount, any good? -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Rearview-Mirror-Brac...

Finally, is there any other decent camera available at a similar price that can fit behind my rear view mirror, as discreet as possible?

Thanks again

After having a good read of the thread I am going to get one. Just a few questions before I pull the trigger.

- Worth getting 0805 over the 0801?
- Is GPS worth it?
- Best place to purchase? Have seen both combo UK on eBay and carcamerashop.co.uk. Ideally do not want to wait 3 weeks.

Cheers

Check back over the last 8 pages or so, You'll find my thoughts on the 0801 / 0805 and my choice of where to buy wink

I wouldn't consider the 0801 now, it's been superseded a few times. I've got the 0803 which is great and addresses the low light issues the 0801 had, and the 0805 is better still. Decide how much you want to spend and go with either, you won't be disappointed. GPS is a personal thing, I've no need for it and it uses more space on your memory card.

I got mine from Eprance through Amazon and I had it in a few days of ordering. Joovuu is also a good UK site.
I have the 0801 and the 0803 in two vehicles. I would not have another 0803, the first died after a few days, and the 2nd doesnt work if it's cold, only when it's 'warmed up', whereas the 0801 I've had no issues with.

Hi,

Don,t want to read through all the pages but I am looking to buy my first Dashcam due to the dreadful standards of driving in Glasgow....

I was thinking of the 805 as described by a few people however I would like one with an outside motion sensor as someone has also been leaving notes on my car....

Any recommendations or links to a UK seller would be appreciated as I wish to buy it this week....

Thanks in anticipation.....

I wonder if the ones with problems have been counterfeit ones? The safest place to buy (IMHO) is the E-PRANCE models from amazon.

I purchased a 2nd E-Prance 0801 dash cam with a 32GB card for £47 from Amazon and delivery was next day even though I had selected free delivery, link is http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IKEVT6W - I note that the same seller is also listing the 0805 dash cam with a 32GB card for £87. Seems the prices do vary quite a bit.

The Combi website are very good and have a proper phone number to call them on for sales advice and also if the camera develops a fault, from what I can gather their after-sales support is superb, link is http://www.combi.org.uk/categories/6/Mini-0801-DVR - ought to mention that they are showing the 0805 as out-of-stock till the end of February.

I've been holding back on the purchase of the 0805 in anticipation of the much improved 0806, though think they have been having a few teething problems with it so I may have to wait a bit longer.

I think the 080* range all have the 'Motion Detect' option, you will need to purchase a hardwire kit to ensure they are powered up al the time and remember to select 'Motion Detect' so that it only records motion - will be very useful in your car to catch the offender red-handed. What a surprise that will be for him or her wink

The www.JooVuu.com also seem to have a pretty good reputation though I did suffer a few issues with an order for a Mobius but think this was down to a software error when I placed the order. Certainly the Mobius seems to have an extremely good reputation for video quality and also reliability.

If you've not watched the videos on these dash cams then it's well worth watching the Techmoan reviews on YouTube - yes I know I've posted the link before but it would seem that many reading these posts don't like trawling back 128 pages - I actually think this is once of the best threads to trawl through. Link is: http://www.techmoan.com

Good luck with your final purchase.

On that point I had just ordered an 0805 from Combi's website last night to replace an expired 0801 when I had a call from Combi to apologise as it was out of stock.

What was then offered was an 0806 instead, for the additional cost, as they'd just had a batch arrive. When I asked about the issues with the 06 he said that these were the "V-2" ones in which had resolved that issue (GPS connection IIRC).

He seemed very on-the-ball, so I was happy to place the order.

That is very interesting to know, I think I will be giving them a call in the morning.

I'm not familiar with the SJCAM M10 Mini Cube Camera, though note that Techmoan has reviewed it which may be of interest to you, link is: http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2014/12/6/sjcam-m10-a...

Just a quick question: are there any budget (sub-£100) cams that have a useful battery life, say 3 hours or more?

Not arsed about anything fancy, just a "record" button and an easy means of getting the videos onto a PC if its ever necessary.

Could do with one as the ratio of normal humans to psychotic lunatics on the road is decreasing rapidly! But I have an aversion to cables trailing all over the car to reach the dash or windscreen, and the front 12v socket is in any case normally occupied by a phone charger.

Ta smile

It's not a 'fit and forget' solution though.
Doesn't support loop recording and auto power-up etc like a proper dashcam .

Hi guys
Looking at getting the 0805 mini supplied with a memory card, is there an offer on anywhere at the mo? Will the prices drop with the 0806 out? Is Amazon the best place to get it from? Birthday coming up and was just going to get Amazon vouchers as gift and use those for it

Thanks

It's quite easy to tuck the cables behind the headlining and trim, 5 minute job. Power is trickier, but you can usually tap off something if you don't want to add splitters. Worst case, drop in to a place that does phone/sat-nav/radio installs, they should know how to get to some power easily.

IMO dash cams should always be 'fit and forget' because the day you forget to take it, or plug it in is the day you need it.

Really impressed with my 0801 so far. This is maybe a stupid question, but how can I save something during a drive?

As in, if I'm out on a long journey and see something happen that I want to keep, but have a couple of hours drive ahead, is there a way to not over write the earlier part? Or even just save a 3 minute section?
