Thanks for the input
I want to get a good quality capture day and night really.
You mention you are getting an 0801 for the rear...is there a difference in the 0801 and the 'straightforward E-Prance 0801' you refer to?
Thanks again
The seller on Amazon lists the item as E-Prance 0801, I'm not too sure what the differences are.I want to get a good quality capture day and night really.

Have a quick chat with Lee at Combi on 01455 233988 about the most suitable dash cam for you, he seems pretty knowledgeable, they are based in Leicestershire so if anything goes wrong it's easy to send the unit back and is far cheaper and quicker than posting back to China.
Am pretty sure that the 0803, 0805 and 0806 models perform better in low light conditions, certainly TechMoan noticed the improvements on his YouTube review of the 0803. Link to the review is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LWOq62cY6U

I would like to know aswell, I would rather have mine hardwired in.
Speaking as someone who never understood electrickery I was able to use youtube to figure this out easily and at a total cost of about £3 using parts from Amazon / poundland. I also bought a soldering iron for £10.The hardest part is getting the wires hidden but it really is a very easy job. If you use an 'add a circuit' it's completely removable also

That's what I was planning to use until I realised the fuse box was in the boot! In the end the Halfords chap who installed my iO Play 2 stuck another lighter socket in for me at the same time (for free, nice chap!) and left it sticking out underneath the glove box. Then it only took me 15 minutes of sticking the camera lead behind the trim and attaching the socket to the underside of the glove box using velcro just to keep it tucked up out of the way.

My father wants a dashcam, any recommendations for one he can mount on dashboard and not windscreen??? As it's windscreen mounts which are most common, if you use those cameras on dashboard the footage is upside down. Thanks!
You can mount the Mobius on the dash with velcro on the holder. It is the correct way up already then (you have to tick invert video 180deg in options if using it on a windscreen mount). I had mine like this for 3 months before buying a windscreen mount and it worked well.https://www.joovuu.com/gb/action-cameras/14-mobius...
I'm just starting to look into getting a dash cam and have read as much of this thread as I can, so apologies if this has already been asked, but is there anywhere I can get a side-by-side comparison of the various cams available? Even just looking at the e-prance models on Amazon there seem to be quite a few and I'm struggling to compare them.
From what I gather the 801/803/805s are held in high regard, and the 806 should be the one to go for if it wasn't for early teething problems (is this still an issue)? So what else is out there that is comparable to these models? Feels like this needs a wiki page...
Thanks in advance
ETA - I see some models come with built in wifi/phone apps that allow you to download the videos without removing the device/memory card from the car. 1) do these cams work well, 2) do these features work well and 3) are there any recommendations of cameras with this feature? I like the idea of easily copying the file to my phone (and then onto dropbox) but not at the expense of a camera that actually works well.

Looks like a G1W. I have one of these - I paid about 50% more. Assuming postage doesn't hurt that price too much, and it comes with a mount and charger cable, I'd say yes, worth a punt, if you can live with the long shipping time. Otherwise buy from E-Prance and get it quicker dtmpower said:
What are people doing with regard to hard wiring ? Taking a feed off the interior light and then dropping it to 5v for the USB input on the camera ?
Fuse tap off the interior fuse box wired to a voltage step down box off ebay for a few £ and a few lengths of appropriate gauge 2core wire (as full USB cables are a bit thick and unnecessary just for power)Does require a soldering iron and a ground point to the chassis but that's not to say it's in any way difficult to do.

The overtake is alright as it is a splitter lane?

I had one of those, really good. until some twit broke in to steal it....
trying to decide whether to get another the same or something cheaper with a rear cam - the wifi was ok for transferring files but a bit of a gimmick tbh.
My fears confirmed, I really want the unattended motion feature but am realistic enough to know you won't bother plugging it in daily, it's chore you'll forget on that 1 day it matters.
