Bit of a hijack but where have you mounted your phone and what mount are you using. I've got a nexus five and a cheap sucker type mount but it's none to stable and has lots of shake.

If I use the app on my Galaxy phone, I use a cheapo £5 mount from Asda.

If I use the app on my 7" tablet, I use a headrest mount turned the opposite way around to what is intended to make it forward facing.

However, this does film the dash area too which you may not want.
For me, this is an ideal mounting position so that it films whoever is driving as well as the road ahead.

Having watched the techmoan vid on the 0803 the USB cable is 10 metres long, anyone know how long they are in the 0805 & 0806? I've got a secondary power point in my boot which would be ideal, just not sure once it's been hidden around the car if it'll fit.

Unless you are driving in low light or night-time then perhaps look at the rather straight-forward 0801 which is even cheaper, I purchased a 2nd E-Prance 0801 dash cam with a 32GB card for £47 from Amazon and delivery was next day, link is http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IKEVT6W - I note that the same seller is also listing 0805 dash cams.

Also worth visiting is Combi based in Leicestershire, so should the dash cam malfunction at least you don't have to post it back 6000 miles and wait for a replacement (which may well get accidentally lost in the post!) Combi have a UK telephone number and a email address to contact them on. Email: [e-mail] or phone: [phone]

I purchased a 0806 dash cam from them which broke within a matter of days and they replaced it straight away, so highly recommended. The 0806 is proving to be an excellent dash cam, but I'm not convinced it is worth nearly double the price of the 0801 which cost me just under £50 back in September 2014.

And the reason for me buying the 0806 was because it has two micro SD cards each capable of accepting cards bigger than 32GB, in my case I fitted two 64GB class 10 cards, though am led to believe the 0806 chip accepts up to 2TB - I have a 128GB card which I intend to test sometime soon to see if it works. Bigger cards only limited by their expense.

Thanks for all your help gents... I bought an E-Prance 0801 from Amazon due to speed of delivery etc... Anything special I need to do to set it up...? I went for one with GPS and added a 32gb SD card... I'll see how I get on with it over the next few weeks as I do plan to get an 0806... One thing I thought I would ask is if I buy a hardware kit for the 0801 will I also be able to use it in the 0806 when I upgrade...?

Well done, the 0801 is an excellent dash cam and is certainly a lot better than far more expensive units. If I was you I would wait a while whilst the gremlins are taken out of the 0806, I've had my 0806 fitted for a couple of weeks now and don't honestly think that in the daytime the video quality is any better than the 0801, if anything it appears to be slightly worse. I intend to fit an 0801 alongside the 0806 in the next few days so that I can do a direct comparison between them. Is probably a firmware setting that needs to be tweaked. The 0806 is definitely better in low light and at night time but that may not matter to many owners.

The improvement I have found which is what I was looking for was the ability to record onto much larger SD cards, I currently have 2 x 64GB class 10 cards fitted, but am led to believe that far larger cards can be fitted once they become more affordable. I certainly have a 128GB card which I may give a try.

As regards the mount, I discovered that the 0806 works in an older (Sept 2014) 0801 non GPS mount.

Yes, I just watched the Techmoan review of the K1S, it looks great.

They are available wholesale from Shenzhen if anyone fancies sending £10,000 by Western Union for a bundle of K1S's ...... ok, I thought not!

Just fitted an 0805 to my wife's car, It is a recent model Fiesta and has a big rain/light detector assembly at the top of the windscreen behind the mirror. Due to the wide angle lens it means that I had to position the camera much lower and across than I'd like and it is much more visible. At the moment the camera is in the top left corner instead as a trial. Still gets a lot of the A pillar in the picture unless I move it across. I guess there isn't much I can do about this?

Interesting Q. I put an 0801 in my 944 over the weekend and that is also quite visible, mainly due to the tinted strip at the top of the windscreen meaning it had to be moved down quite a lot.

It set me wondering about other places to mount a camera. I was wondering about putting it in a waterproof box (a la Go Pros) and putting it behind a grille somewhere, but haven't investigated it yet. I can see an immediate downside in that it wouldn't give as true a drivers-eye view as when mounted in the windscreen, but other factors may make up for this.

It would get pretty messy too. Road grime and the lense would get rubbed away at by road crap.

+ in the unfortunate event of someone pulling out infront of you, it could damage the camera and storage beyond any use

A) Even on charge it runs the battery down.

B) My phone mount means the car and mount get in the shot a bit too much really.

There - two more good reasons not to stick your Dash Cam in your grille. And I hadn't thought about either of them! (Actually, the dirt one had crossed my mind but not enough to think it was a problem.) Three cheers for PH, thanks Davie and FilH.

Hi all, well didn't fit my Dashcam at the weekend as unsure where to place it... My car is a 2005 Cayenne, was going to fit it behind/ next to the rear-view mirror however that would mean putting the adhesive on the dotted sun strip at the top of the screen... Do you think the dotted sun strip would be pulled off if I had to remove the mount...? It's also a little difficult to plug in/remove the power lead due to being so close to the roof if the car and roof lining.... Any advice would be gratefully received.... Thankfully my 509 mile drive was without incident although some of the flooding around Inverness etc was unreal, as were the blizzards and storm force wind & rain coming through Glencoe today....

I recently saw a dashcam video from an s2000 and he had his mounted on the rear parcel shelf not sure how well this would work on a larger car, it would mean that if its in that position and well hidden enough it would catch anyone who breaks into your car.
