Has anyone found a reliable UK seller for the K1S yet?

A colleague was trying to order 1 (originally 2 but the seller said he now only had 1) from a seller on Ebay. Says he UK based and has UK stock. He keeps getting fobbed off every time he asks for a delivery date.
JooVuu - that's where mine came from.

Where/who did you order it from? Changing from a class 6 to class 10 won't make any noticeable difference to the recording quality. Sounds to me like you've bought a fake cam as the 0805 performs well in reviews.
I bought it from an online retailer mentioned in here a few times, can't remember the name, but I'm 100% sure it's not fake

Reg plates are unreadable, and I just find it poor quality. This is a screen shot to show the quality

Is that on YouTube? If so it typically murders quality.

Play back your videos in Registrator Viewer which can be downloaded here: http://www.registratorviewer.com/download_en.html

It's miles better than the bundled playback software. Also have you tweaked the settings on your camera correctly?

Thanks.

Evening all.

I've now got a new car following my last one being written off. And as the dash cam footage was pivitol in the whole lot i need to get it into my new one.

I've bought an 06 730d with the cigarette lighters in less than a convenient place. I am going to buy a hardwire kit to install it in the 7 but the fusebox is in the boot so an extra pain to route the cables and hide them etc.

An added requirement is that i'm driving to Manchester at the end of June and leaving the car at the airport parking. Not that i don't trust people but i don't. I want to get it in and set is up for motion detection.

I would love a solution where by i got an email or a text to say it had moved but i'm not sure that's even possible.

Any suggestions to kill my paranoia?

Have you tried playing it locally in whatever media player you use? Is the quality still the same? Perhaps a stupid question, but you have made sure it's set to 1080p in the camera settings and clicked save, yes? From your still it looks more like 360p.

After an incident today where some tt decided to jump on my bonnet I've decided it's time to get a dash cam. Having a look and wondering if this one would be any good. Luckily a police man saw the chap jumping on my bonnet, he was a bit tipsy.

Not sure of model number so struggling to find example videos.

Also this one.

Looks high quality looking on YouTube.

Otherwise what camera would be best at around the £30 mark?

You get what you pay for. Get the Mobius at £50 or don't bother as anything cheaper than that will either be crap video or you'll have reliability issues. There's enough evidence in this thread.

Where is the best place to buy the Mobius?

Should I be concerned that there seems to be a lot for sale on ebay advertised as 'spare or repairs'?

I ordered a £30 one, reviews were good and a footage on Youtube was good, could read numberplates. Has one of the return to Amazon things so if it is no good will send back and get an expensive one.

Do you guys leave your cams in the car the whole time or do you have to remember to take it out every journey?
Are they difficult to fit (is it worth paying for the halfords fitting service?).

Just wondering what is the cheapest set-up I could get that would be useful in the even of an accident really....
Wiring up to the ignition/perma live is pretty easy via fuse tap and scotch locks + a 12v female adapter in the glovebox. I have that in my E46 and the dashcam comes on live on ignition position 1 and goes off when the car is off.

Works a treat really. I have a 32GB mSD card in there and it simply records several days of driving and overwrites old recordings as the card fills up.

It's a neat and convenient solution, 100% set and forget and simply use footage in the event of an incident.

Looks like the advice is to get a Class 6 rather than 10 for these cameras.
I've been running a class 6 in my 0805 and I'm not happy at all with the quality

I've just ordered a class 10 to see if it makes a difference
Just read your post.

Unfortunately I doubt very much that you will find any improvement with the 0805 as regards viewing number-plates of oncoming vehicles. I have a 0806 which I thought would be vastly superior to the Eprance 0801 that I had been using and I've been sadly very disappointed with the results - and to add insult to injury the 0801 is very good with regard to reading number-plates of oncoming cars. I've posted a few links on here though can't find them as I type this reply out to you.

I think the 0805 is marginally better than the 0801 in the daytime but is superior at night or low-light, is just poor with recording number-plates of moving vehicles which rather defeats the whole point of buying the 0805.

I purchased a Mobius Action Cam using an 'A' lens which has proved itself to be extremely reliable, with excellent video quality in the daytime, and considering it cost half of the 0806 I think it is pretty astonishing - it also can record to 64GB and 128GB cards so isn't restrained to 32GB as a lot of the current dash cams are. Comes highly recommended.

The reason for my buying the 0806 was that it was supposed to offer better video quality and that it also had twin SD card slots with the facility to accept larger 64Gb and 128GB sizes, it now transpires that the 0806 doesn't offer the facility to record onto both cards when the first is full, and thought he video quality is very good when stationary, it's very blurry when recording moving vehicles.

If I had know then what I know now (bearing in mind I tend not to drive at night) I would have just settled with a cheaper 0801 or perhaps a Mobius which I consider to be one of the best cameras currently available, plus the Mobius can be used as an external camera on say a push bike or motorcycle and is not limited to use just in a car because it has a built-in battery with over 60 mins recording time.

This seller (eletoponline365) is the maker of them. Excellent customer support via Skype should it be required (I speak from experience as I, ahem, "accidentally" fried the first one I got hehe ).

The windscreen suction cup they sell for it works very well and the USB cig charger they sell is the correct power output - both well worth getting.

I've had my Mobius nearly 2 years and it's in use for around 12 hours a night 5 nights a week. It's only locked up once in all that time and it was quickly resolved with a firmware update. I run it on 1080p 30fps and reg plates are perfectly readable during the day time and same at night in well illuminated areas. See the review on techmoan.com if you haven't done so already.

thats good to hear, is it just fit and forget like the 080_ series of cameras, as in starts recording when you give it power, and stops when you park, turning off the ignition, if your 12V works that way?

cheers

How do you know it's not fake?

Google this, then run a test....h2testw

I had a fake SanDisk USB stick recently. Very difficult to detect visually.

I totally agree with you, the ebay seller eletoponline365 is indeed the manufacturer of the Mobius, and does provide excellent customer service and support. Much better than many of the UK based internet sellers. I ordered a Mobius plus various other bits a few weeks ago and they items were delivered in just 7 days from Hong Kong to UK which I consider to be quite outstanding. I've subsequently ordered various other parts from this seller since then that have been delivered in a similar time-frame. Am well impressed.

Yes, if you set it up that way in the camera settings. There are many different options for the behaviour and you can customise most to how you want. I have mine to auto-power on and start recording when power connected and I think I have it set to run on for about 10 seconds after disconnecting power. I'm a stickler for quality stuff and spend far too long reading reviews before opening my wallet but the Mobius is a good quality camera - especially as it comes out of China - and for the money I can assure you that you won't do better. Buy it direct from the seller and it'll be here in about 7 days (both mine were here in 5). Even when I had to send back my first one I fried they received it back in 8 days and it only cost me £2 and some pence to send (which, incidentally, was refunded by way of a free USB cig charger and extra USB > mini-USB lead). Don't bother with the UK resellers as they'll do their best to ignore you if you have any problems with it.

After almost being taken out by a twunt ignoring the traffic flow at a junction last week, I finally cracked and bought a Mobius from a UK supplier which duly arrived next day by recorded post.

I'm really impressed by the picture quality of it and the supporting msetup program makes configuration a doddle. In fact I'm so happy with it, I've just bought another one for SWMBO smile

There are some things which you need to be aware of:

  • It uses a mini USB connector straight out of the back of it. As a common place to mount these is in front of the rear view mirror, the cable can get quite problematic to place neatly. A right angle adapter is handy in these situations.
  • The mini USB connector is obviously different from the micro USB connector many people may already have wired in somewhere to charge their smart phones, so a mini-micro right angle converter may prove to be more useful for connection sharing.
  • The wide angle C lens point of view is VERY wide, so you get loads of dashboard and sky if you're not careful.
  • It's recommended that you purchase a super capacitor to replace the onboard battery which can get very hot and malfunction during hot days. Downside is that the camera switches off immediately following loss of power, with a little bit of delay to save the last file.
  • As the unit is a small matchbox sized device, placing it at an optimal angle on the windscreen can prove a challenge to avoid filling the video with a dashboard. I've purchased the 8 inch lens extension cable which I hope will allow me to tape the lens in the best place and then tuck the main unit out of the way elsewhere.
  • Possible common problem to most cameras, but the video is very susceptible to vibrations, pot holes and uneven road surfaces. I'm looking into shock absorbing surfaces to combine with the lens extension.
