Have a look on rc groups about supressing Möbius interference, as the Möbius is popular with model aircraft/drones it can cause interference with the fpv.

Theres a massive thread on it and various solutions have been found from the simple (wrap some copper tape around it) to the more advanced (Some special type of spray paint that contains metal that you spray on the inside of the case).

On the subject of the Möbius, even though its 3 years old now and only 1080p it still looks better than many 2/4k dashcams when you zoom in to numberplates.

Lots of resolution and little bitrate still equals gash video. As the Mobius demonstrates, its the bitrate and compression that dictates the quality, rather than the sensor resolution...

I'm staggered that there isn't:

1. A requirement to have a camera fitted to all squad cars
2. A standardised piece of equipment for that purpose
3. Some internal guidance about what the use of them can incorporate
Yeah, It's a bit of a joke to be honest. I assume it's a cost issue, or more likely, a 'too hard to do' issue.

I've managed to drop my Mobius a few times, and the modellers have them attached to drones and aircraft which vibrate and bang back to earth. So I suspect it passes the durability test. Video seems fine to me, but I am not that demanding regarding "stutter" - it is lots of separate clips.

It draws an absolute maximum of 2W when recording and has something like 900mAh of internal battery. So one of those 5000mAh lipstick battery pack things would probably provide you with a portable solution.

No screen, which is probably a plus. Excellent configuration program you run on your laptop, which also allows you to rotate the video 180 degrees. That helps if you want to stick it up under the rear view camera - you can put it on upside down with a COMMAND strip.

I've just ordered a Mobius as I want to do a stealth install with the lens extension cable. One thing I forgot to look into though was the battery replacement capacitor which seems to be recommended for in-car use as the battery unit can suffer.

Is it really required? I'm intending on charging it off an ignition feed and it will be running for ~1hr a day on the half hour commute to work and back so not as though it will be constantly on charge?

I haven't had a problem yet, I think I ordered the capacitor and then never bothered to fit it.

Oh, there's a good idea... I've got some solder-sucker braid, it'll be a lot quicker and cheaper to try than making a custom metal box smile

Mine has been running for two years sometimes for hours on end. If I disconnect the power cable the battery lasts only about 5 mins now.

I think it's done well.

I readtechmoan and debated for ages as to which to get. Had a roadhawk for many years but wanted to update it. Went for a Transcend from Halfords with the GPS for a few reasons - wanted a shop to take it back to if it went wrong, techmoan gave it a good review but most important was that it appeared to be reliable or more so then some others tested. It has a small screen so when moving to different cars its easy to set up again. Waited for a sale at halfords then added another discount with brit cyc org membership.

So far Im happy with it.
Hi, can I ask which model it is, they appear to sell two different cams of this brand.

I'm wondering if it is worth paying Halfords the £30 extra to 'hard wire' it in? Halfords prices look reasonably competitive although I know buying online is probably cheaper, but I would like to get it somewhere I can take it back if it goes wrong.

This will be my first cam, I would like something sensibly priced, reasonable quality, discrete and easy to use. I was looking at the Transcend 220 with GPS, or a Nexbase 402g (but that looks a bit bulky).

Has anyone got any other recommendations?
thanks.

I'm trying to find a dash cam that can run for a reasonable period (1 hour +) on it's own power
You can run any dashcam with an external usb battery, if that helps. You can even connect the battery pack inline, so it's charged while the engine is running and powers the camera when the engine is off.
Thanks, I found an external battery was available for the Roadhawk, with similar form factor, so it doesn't take up too much space. I didn't want to wire into the car as I wanted to avoid wires across the dashboard and also move between vehicles.

How are people finding Dash-cams on their insurance?

I called Admiral on Saturday to change cars over, as I was on the phone I thought I would see if my Dash-cam made the insurance any cheaper.

I was put on hold while he checked, and he came back to say that a dash cam is classed as a modification and the premium would go up as a result.

I was staggered and assumed a mistake, asked him to check again and he came back to confirm the same, I explained that it was only plugged into the cigarette lighter and stuck on the windscreen, not hard wired in and compared it to a sat nav, and asked if using a sat nav would also increase my insurance. Amazingly he checked and said that yes, a sat nav would also be classed as a modification and would increase my insurance too.

I gave up at this point and ended the call, I'm still assuming he was wrong and had the wrong end of the stick, anyone had the same?

Like everything, depends on the insurer. Swiftcover offer a discount, but may be more expensive than Admiral to start with.

Remember the case with a woman whose insurer declined to payout because of some stickers on the car? Granted they weren't little stickers, but still ...

Yes Its the one with the GPS cant remember the model number. Like you wanted the back up of a shop plus discounts etc.

Have you recorded any footage yet, if so what is the quality like?

I'm uncertain about the GPS. It could be useful to have the speed and location, but at the same time it could be self incriminating should one be making good progress.

That's a little concerning as I'm with Admiral, another reason not to renew with them.

I didn't even realise you had to declare things like cams or sat nav? Seems utterly mad to me and surely from an insurer's perspective the cam could potentially save them money in a non-fault claim that might have been settled as 50/50 without evidence.

I guess the counter-argument is that there's an increased risk of them having to pay out when someone makes a mess of your car to steal your constantly on display gadget.

Admiral really are the Easyjet of the insurance world, even factory fitted optional extras are classed as 'modifications'.

By the way, for a neat install I'd order a handlebar mount (http://www.hobbyrc.co.uk/mobius-actioncam-handle-bar-mount)

You can then attach it to a headrest. Saves having a suction cup on the windscreen given the propensity for less-than-gentle driving that is likely.

I just bought a Mini 0806 with GPS and polarizing lense from Amazon. The reviews look good and even with the SD card and hardwire kit it only came to £100. Fingers crossed it is easy to install.
