Does a front facing dashcam work effectively as a rear facing camera, some of the combo kits on the market look like cable central and the rear camera is usually a little compromised on quality. I've got a 12v lighter supply in the boot just figured I could just plumb in a front dashcam and attach to rear screen. Any drawbacks I'm missing?

It works well, I have a mobius in the back, it's held up by one of the roof liner poppers, looks pretty stealth

I was going to get a centralised one, but separates seem a bite more reliable, plus if my front one goes tits up, I can pinch the one from the back as a temp measure

Any thoughts on this

I think it would fit well in my car, would be factory looking

How are the specs in comparison to say a mobius

Mobius 2 just came out as well, doesn't appear to be a huge upgrade to be honest, but will apparently do 60fps @ 1080p.
Any more info/reviews on it? I have a Mobius 1 myself and it serves its purpose well, except for the comparatively poor night vision, which, as a night driver isn't ideal. Wondering if the Mobius 2 addresses this issue and there have been improvements?

There is a forum on dashcamtalk for it : https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/forums/mobius-2-m2.1...
As the mobius cameras get used by the drone/radio controlled hobbyists there is also a thread on this forum : http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26... as I understand it there is a chap called Peter who posts on that thread who is the manufacturer or at least somehow involved.

The other camera that comes to mind is the joovuu X - it also has its own section on dashcamtalk. Its developed by a chap here in the UK, using Chinese manufacturers (he actually has a Chinese person working for him over there) similar form factor to the mobius but more features - gps, smartphone connectivity etc. The guy that owns the company posted the whole development process to the forum, had beta testers there and so on, so there is plenty of information.

Got it to try, if it was no good it could go back

Guess what after 20 mins it's going back

The form factor is excellent, just holding it I place to test fit it looked like a factory jobbie

Interestingly it came with a odbII port connector, pretty neat as it supplies the power that way

First problem is it wouldn't stay on for more than 20 seconds so I couldn't pair the phone over the wifi to set it up

For that reason it's going back, sadly

Glad I dropped back in on this.

Always thought a rear cam would be no use as we have a Z4, convertible roof. Mounting it in the rear headrest may be an option. Will have to do some measurements and see if it's feasible.

What do you think of the new Vicovation Opia 2 dash cam? It's quite expensive but supposed to be really good with the new Ambrella A12 chip?

Mobius 2 arrived and fitted today - replacing a mk1.

Initial thoughts are it seems better built, although is more compact when it comes to mounting - barely fits on the mount I had for the mk1.

Ended up using a 90 degree connector (taken before sorting the angle out)

Thanks. Just looked at the thread linked. Doesn't seem any better any night than the original version. And yes, Peter Xie is the manufacturer. I have him on my Skype and we have chatted before.

As for anything to do with Joovuu, well all I'll say is good luck with that. He has a shocking reputation for customer service and is well documented around the net.

Thanks I had some issues mounting the möbius on some windscreen angles couldn't fit it in the 300c that might have done the trick.

Well the Mobius 2 has been a royal PITA to setup.

Didn't like he Sandisk or Samsung 64GB cards (both class 10), regardless of formatting type either on PC or in camera. Kingston 32GB card worked first time though, so we're now up and running.

Given I'm not a n00b t this sort of stuff, it does seem like it may have been released a touch too early. As per the Mk1, I suspect a few firmware releases will sort it out.

Yes it works fine, just requires a bit more thought where to mount it with an opening hatch etc. I fitted a DR32 under one of the rear headrests in my Mini. Almost invisible with tinted rear windows.

This is my rear mounted DR32. It's mounted on the near side barn door of my Clubman (the least opened door). The power lead is via a 1 foot long coiled USB lead that plugs into the 12v socket in the boot. The mount is a Chinese eBay one which allows me to slide the unit out if necessary. Unfortunately I only had a smidge of black trim tape left so I had to use white No More Nails tape which is making my teeth itch every time I see it. biggrin As Ash's, mine is 98% invisible behind the tinted glass. You can only see it in bright sunlight if you are about 1 foot away from the rear window.

After 1 minute the screen times out and in the dark I can just about see the red led on the DR32 confirming it's still recording.

The camera is likely SDHC enabled (upto 32gb) but not SDXC enabled (64gb and up).

Not according to the manual, indeed some sellers even offer a 64GB card as part of a package.

I actually think there is an issue with the camera. It struggles to connect to the setup program, a PC or a Mac via USB and when it has recorded there are digital artefacts everywhere.

As a result, I'm returning it for a replacement...

That would be odd, I used SDXC in a mobius 1, no problems.

Got this from Amazon

http://www.ddpai.com/en/mini.php

Very very pleased with it, when parked up, it does a timelapse

Whe it senses you moving it turns back to a regular dash cam

Tucks up nicely by the mirror and the app is excellent
