Curious to know peoples thoughts on my previous purchase.

I recently bought a Next base 412GW and returned due to not being impressed by the overall picture quality.

Number plate clarity was terrible when paused, and not much difference when changing the settings.

I copmpared the above with an old Mobius 1 that I had spare from when I used to fly drones and had the Mobius purely as a basher racing drone. ( in an attempt to not damage a go pro hero 3 black edition ).

Sadly the mobius got stolen out of my car as I used to leave it in all the time. I forgot to lock the car one night, or the kids had been playing with my keyfob and the car got cleared out frown

I had come to rely on the camera for the what if scenario and coupled with a recent trip to Halfords the 412GW seemed a good buy.

Interested to hear other people thoughts on this.

I will probably buy another dash cam but not sure what to get now.

Thanks

Col.
I've got a 212 in the Daihatsu Shed. Decided to download a WTF comedy moment from someone elses driving and found that the quality was kwality rather than Quality. Checked the camera out and found that I was recording in 720p rather than 1080 in the setting.

I have a 0805. Or is it a 0806?

Anyway, it's taken to not overwriting any files so just stop recording.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi all,
Asking for some advice now! The Mini 0801 series cameras (/3/5/6) seem to be finished now, i.e. rather old tech, and we now know that the batteries give up after about 3 years. For the money I've been impressed with the quality in HD, and the general ease of use, and small size with inconspicuous fitting. The first one I bought (about 4 to 5 years ago I think) was about £90, then last year down to about £50.

So .... what is a good replacement at around £50 to £90? HD is good (I want to be able to read number plates). Ease of setting up is a plus factor, and a screen on the camera helps.

Viofo A119 or A119s (the "s" has a slightly narrower angle lens)
Ive got the plain 119 which gives great clarity, well worth getting the CPL filter.

Finally arrived.

DDPAI Mini 2

Just been out to the car, very eager to get it in. Working in a fashion but quite a few questions/issues.

The Samsung 64GB card won't work at all. It says Hello DD then SD card error, SD card error over and over mad
I did format the card on my PC prior and it correctly shows 64GB
I found an old Samsung 32GB card with music stored. I formatted the card exactly the same way and that seemed to work fine.

Got it all powered up and no errors.
Tried to connect to phone app which took a few attempts. My phone kept switching from home wifi to I guess what is the ddpai's own network. I did eventually connect and I got an image of the camera view.

I tried to get into the settings but I had lost connection and could not reconnect.

I am on Android.
How does the connection work? Should my phone be set to 4G or home wifi? Do I need to be on my home network to connect/change settings?
Even when I turned my phone wifi off, when I tried to connect to the camera, it just switched it self back on.
Do I have to be sat in the car to review any video?

Will have more time tomorrow so hopefully can get it sorted out.

Does the Ddpai mini 2 not full recordings to the phone? Only thing I can find on the app are the photos/clips from the manual button press.

Format the card in the camera, not in a PC.

Excellent. Tried the format in cam and it worked.

Now using a powerback in the house and it seems to be a lot easier to set up rather than being sat in the car.

It seems to download the button press recording automatically but you have o go into the app and search for the main recordings and download those individually.

I'm still not 100% on how to connect. Quite often it won't 'see' the dashcam. I can't work out whether I need to be on home network or not.
Currently
Phone Wi-Fi turned on
Sometimes it connects to Talk Talk, sometimes it connects to DDPAI
When connected to DDPAI it works but then drops out and switches back to Talk Talk.
I tried 'forget network' for Talk Talk but then when it connects to DDPAI it shows 'no internet'

Well, gone to the trouble of refitting it all and setting all the wires. Switch back on and bloody SD card error again.
Certainly not an easy unit to set up. After waiting a few months before buying, i'm quite disappointed. Looking back at my 0803 fondly!

Now my phone won't connect to wifi whatsoever. I wonder if it the heat. Very frustrating.

picture quality seems good, but its a bit ugly stuck on the screen and can get in the way.
thankfully you can turn the screen off automatically.

I went with the A118C after having one of these - its a lot neater mounting.

Still got the SpyTec, but I think I broke the USB power cable taking it out :-(

Finally got connected and no reoccurence of card errors.

However, there are several files which sit in the album that are not fully downloaded or still downloading or possibly have some sort of error so not visible.

I've had plenty of time in the car whilst 'connected'. I can't see any way to refresh the app/page.
All I see is the Ddpai logo. If you click on it you just get a blank black page.

Noticed there's a new nexbase camera out now.

Nextbase 512GW from Halfords.

I'm tempted as it offers an improved picture over the 412gw.

Its a bit to soon for critics but may pick one up and report back.

Well. Had a look and it appears to be randomly recording. So if I drive to wok it will record about half the journey in random periods of time. I've reset it and see where we go from there

Just changed from my trusty 0801 to an A119. So far so good, but the quality of the image when looking back on the computer doesn't seem as good as i'd hoped. You can read number plates fairly close to the car but not that well at normal driving distance. Is that about normal?

If not, anyone recommend some settings? Currently on 1440p with the WDR turned off. I think i may get the cpl filter too as i'm seeing quite a lot of dashboard reflection too.

did you do that card test on the 64gb one? i'd recommend doing it asap

fill the 32gb card up and see if it has the issues.

Wonder if anyone here can help. I'm looking for a dash cam for my wife's Renault Megane, one that has an easy parking mode.
I was looking at the Halfords range of Nextbase but they all need to make 3-4 menu selections each time it is turned on or off.
As she's getting a bit of hit and run damage where she parks for work, I'd like something that is easy to set on an off. Any suggestions?

I've also tried having a Nextbase one permanently recording on my own car, but had to have it removed after it flattened the battery three times in 2 months, despite Halfords best efforts. It seems that either the voltage drop sensors don't work to protect the battery or they couldn't find the correct live feed.

Just been listening and looking at these as a potential replacement for my unreliable Mobius 2 - might go and look at one in Halfords over the weekend.
