The maps are downloaded around a decent radius and generally following your route too. GPS is all you real need and I can't say I've ever hit a blackhole in the 6 months I've been using it all over the country. The other thing to do, if you know you're going to be screwed is use Google Maps and cache the map route http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57594191-285/h...

I've been using it a fair bit and I would say its very good! Have not used my tomtom since!

To answer some questions, 1) You can be anonymous so you can't be seen by other users. 2) If you stop for a bit i.e. to fill up with fuel, it will ask you if you are stuck in traffic or have just parked up. 3) Yes it does eat up battery power, but that is more to do with the GPS than the app.

The biggest power-draining thing on most smartphones is the screen, by a long way. Keeping GPS going on any fairly recent phone needs tiny amounts.

Worth checking your car charger because (on Android particularly) if it's only delivering the plain USB spec of 500mA it won't be enough to top up a phone that's already working hard (screen on, GPS, bluetooth, etc). You'll probably find it just drains slower on charge. A beefier charger will deliver 4-5 times that.

Waze is power-hungry since it's constantly communicating - uploading and downloading. So long as you have a decent charger, then you'll be fine. Been a user since the start of the year, and I'm very impressed.

Agreed on the power-hunger, but it's comfortably the best nav app I've used. I just wish there was some way to plan journeys ahead, as I would like to use it for my scenic route to Le Mans.

I love this app, seems to be really good and I love the user generated stuff like the police and traffic warnings. One thing that annoys me is that there is no option to warn about a car stopped in the road, only the hard shoulder.

does waze work in France - off over the channel in a few weeks and wondered if using Waze would be viable - I can buy many days of data on my phone for the cost of new maps for my old satnav!

Been using it for a while now.

No major complaints, battery usage is pretty high.

And quite often I seem to find delays don't get added on until you get close to them, or maybe its just that they've got worse as i've approached them?!

Anyway - the important bit - whats everyones rank?

I'm Royalty Wazer - ranked 1561!

Use it on my Note 3

Waze + Spotify playing over Bluetooth with the screen on 100% Brightness and my 1A USB Port from my head unit keeps the phone fully charged at all time.

I'm a Warrior Wazer and am ranked 28,925, I've only be using it for a couple of months though.

It does kill the battery and does some strange routes at times but that's because I know the back routes to where I want to go. I use the nav for traffic most of the time and it seems pretty reliable.

Royalty too, 1835. I assume the really high scorers spend hours editing maps rather than driving to the moon everyday?

I click "hazard", "on road" then I can choose from, object, roadworks, pothole, roadkill or oil spill.

Odd. I've got, object, roadworks, pothole, vehicle stopped on road, roadkill. Release 3.8.0.0 on Android.

Works just about anywhere, I've used it out here in Indonesia and also in Malaysia. Much better than the satnav in the Honda. That doesn't even have roads once you get out of the city.
