I use Sygic on my iPhone but they do an Android version. It's got all the features you'd need and want. Recently added some touches like a fuel-stop button which will find the closest fuel station on your route, not just the closest one (which could be 100m away but the other side of the motorway). Maps are stored on the device so no data required, but with a data connection, you get traffic updates and autorecalculation to avoid jams and whatnot.

This sounds rather interesting.

Sounds better than the TomTom app (iPhone) with HD Traffic which through a wobbler twice last week coming back from work up the M3 and a bit of the M25.
Even I figured out that staying on the M3 and coming off at Sunbury was better then it's proposed alternatives.
The up to date Mercedes sat nav just didn't know anything!!!

I may have to take a look at this Sygic, which I've never heard of.

I've been using it since it's early days and it only keeps getting better. One of the things I like about Sygic as a whole is that they seem to listen to their users. I've posted and commented on a number of feature-request threads on their support site, and have seen quite a few of the requested features end up on the device.

Finally got a chance to look at Sygic.

There seems to be more than a few negative reviews, some are quite significant.
Interestingly no one is pointing fingers at iPhone or Android in particular, so maybe the issues are across the board.
The consensus is that older versions were better, isn't it always the way!

I will download this tomorrow for the 7 day full function (except HUD, not bothered with that anyway) and test it on my week's commute, I'll decide from there whether to replace my TomTom app for this.

Thanks Feef for the tip.

Sygic has alot of TomTom elements, the traffic is the Live Traffic HD, the maps are TomTom.

Google Maps is great because it has free map updates, and is fairly accurate in major cities.

But on android, especially AMOLED screens, i'd be a bit worried when using it for long drives. You may get some screen 'burn in' where the image permanently burns into your screen. I have a bit of this on my Samsung Note 3 from using certain apps for too long. Other than that, never saw a need for an actual GPS unit.

AIUI, it requires a data connection to work, so isn't much use in some more remote areas or if you're abroad and having to pay foreign data charges.

Disclaimer: I didn't even know about Sygic until Feef posted.

Just in case anyone is tempted, I got an email from the Sygic people, apparently they're discounting at the moment, between 20% to 40%.

No good to me, I'm tied into a 12 month subscription with TomTom for HD Traffic until early next year... bastids.

No problems with my Copilot Live.... Le Mans and back plus plenty of running around on back roads which were unfamiliar... superb... Navteq maps plus live traffic.... Brilliant.....
With all these...yer pays yer money & takes your choice... for me Co Pilot fits the bill with alternative routes and travel options.... car/RV/cycle/Walk ... I use RV for my campervan and all the routes have been spot on....
