Chaps, been playing with this and it is quite smart. Having trouble getting my sim balance back from it though - there is a command that sends a code to a number and forwards the result to you, so if sending "check" to 150 is how you get your balance then it forwards the message to you.

Unfortunately I am using lycamobile who have a number you can call or a code you can type in but no SMS number. As lycamobile is the standard sim sent out with a lot of these things has anybody cracked this one yet?

I use the Lycamobile website to track spending and remaining balance. Dead easy.... smile

Cheers! I have also discovered that there's a lycamobile android application.

Chaps,

A couple more questions.

I have been using mine for a month or so and it worked pretty well so I bought another for another car. This one has been working fine, however, having set the monitor function so I can phone and listen in, it still goes to the lycamobile answer phone. I have switched it back to location mode with tracker123456 (got confirmation text) but when I called it it didn't send me its location, and then went back to monitor mode (monitor123456) but it still goes to the answer phone. It definitely worked the other day when I first set it up.

Another thing I have noticed, both trackers are 7 hours ahead of UK time, and "timezone123456 0" on both trackers this comes back with "pwd fail". Password is definitely correct.

Any googling is pointless as I know these rewire ones have a different firmware on them. I suspect it's just a bit buggy - what you get for 30 quid I suppose, but annoying nonetheless. Would like to get the time right at least.

Any suggestions? Can't find any onli esupport on their website. Will email them, but a forum with some users on would be useful. I am going to try a hard reset for the first problem, not sure where to go with the second.

Can't really help with either of those, I haven't tried setting the time on mine.

Monitor function works Ok on both of mine, then again I’m using Giffgaff if that makes any difference. Sending “tracker123456” successfully returns it to tracking mode.

I know what you mean about buggy though, one of mine plays up with the shock sensor, occasionally it just keeps sending texts for no reason. I also had one lock up and stop answering texts, fixed with a re-boot. Overall for my application there’re very good.

I'm assuming you have a GSM signal when you're trying to return to tracker mode?

Yep, have a gsm signal.

I thought the shock/movement sensor needed re-setting every time it was triggered, but recently it seems to do it itself - every time the tracker is still for a few mins if it moves etc. I get another text.

As you say though, it does the job! Would be good to iron out the bugs though.

I had mine hardwired into my last car for 12months and it was fine.

The plug on the hardwire kit that came with the tracker fell apart when tried to plug it in, emailed them and a replacement turned up the following day.

I've not got round to hardwiring it into the current hack, but it's on permanently plugged into the lighter socket in the boot.

Yep had two connected to the power 24/7 for some time now, one is actually fitted to a ride-on mower which is a fairly harsh environment, dust/vibration and so on. The shock sensor is a little temperamental in this unit but otherwise no problems.

Both running Giffgaff.

Yes, I run two (one in my DD which is on the cig lighter, one in the TVR which is hardwired). Both run fine, text me when the car is moved and I can track them through the app/website. They do have the odd glitch and need resetting occasionally, and for some reason one of them will not let me "listen in" by ringing the number.

Will give the giffgaff SIM a go, lyca is ste as already said. They are 2G compatible aren't they?

a year and a half later and I've still not fitted my TK102; it's still on a shelf.

However yesterday I also picked up an Autocom GPS tracker; these retail at £129 (I didn't pay half that, my mate owns a bike shop) but after a quick squint at the manual it looks like a TK102 with a flashy IP66 case and a posh box to me (it also has a built in battery and space for a memory card).

I will pull my finger out and get these fitted to different bikes and report back. Be interesting to see if this Autocom is in fact the same thing.

Folks,

Just re the Giff Gaff SIM - is there anything clever you need to do? About to order one, but do you have to sign up to one of their monthly renewing bundles? I won't use much credit (obviously) so would rather stick £20 credit on it and renew when it's run out - is that possible?

Yep simple as that, no goodybag required.

Well I came round to fitting it and it's st. Power cable really wobbly. Won't aquire a phone signal. Bought an autocom.

And conversely I've been running 2 for the last year or so and they are both working perfectly. There has been the odd glitch and they could be simpler to set up, bit what do you expect for such a small amount?

Might as well just leave it unlocked with the keys in the ignition then!

Or... decent alarm/immobiliser + disklok + cheap tracker = much better chance of seeing your car again.

I thought a common method was to dump a stolen car for a few days to see if it had a tracker? Would find your car for you. Or the casual joyrider / get home from the pub merchant...

Thing is, for £30 quid it's an extra layer of defence. Why not?
