Hey guys,

Thanks for the help
Just a follow up on this, I received the tracker yesterday in the post and hooked it up today with the giffgaff sim.

To test it I rang the tracker and after 2 rings it hangs up and then approx 30 seconds later I received a text with the coordinates of google maps and I just opened the link on my phone and it works a treat.
So I moved the tracker to the rear of the house and did the same again and received coordinates again and to my surprise The tracker had indeed moved to the rear of my house only 10 meteres which is more or less how much I moved it so its very accurate. You guys probably already know this but its a new toy for me.

This is what I received inc a spare battery which is installed in the tracker.

So next thing to do is probably set up the coordinates for the geo fence and possibly turn on the low battery warning and shock sensor.

Also not sure if I should turn off the giffgaff voicemail Is it beneficial? I can phone 1626 on giffgaff to disable it?

Leigh

Good stuff Leigh, I think I did disable voice mail but can't be 100%.

I'm not sure it's free any more but if you register the unit with Rewire you can track the route/speed/distance travelled via their web site, I think they have an app as well.

Hi Alaun

Yer you can use the rewire website but i think its internet use and Im no expert but i think its going to cost more to run and use data as I used the pay as you go top up option on giffgaff rather than monthly plan.

Although I could be wrong as im new to this.

It's worth setting up the data - sending an SMS each time is expensive but the data use is tiny and much cheaper. It's quite involved but I wrote myself a little manual as the one that comes with it is a bit poor IMHO.

I switched off voicemail but no difference really. The listen in feature worked at first but hasn't worked on any of my trackers for a while frown

I wouldn't worry too much about the data costs.

I have mine set up to report position every minute, for tracking on the website and even on the Lycamobile SIM, it only costs me around 1 - 2 pence a day.

So that's less than a tenner a year.....

Of course, texts cost much more.

Hi - you wouldn't mind sharing your self written manual would you ? I've ordered a couple of these - looking to setup the data for tracking etc. Maybe start a knowledge base .....

Cheers

No worries - it's not in a terribly digestible format as I only did it so I could set up new cameras quickly.

(Assumes that SIM has been put in phone and registered with network)

Test by ringing SIM number - should receive an SMS response by return

(All commands sent as SMS messages to the SIM number)

To set up as a car tracker using data:

gprs123456 GPRS mode
imei123456 returns IMEI number of device, needed to register device on gpslive server

apn123456 data.lycomobile.co.uk set up access point name if using Lycamobile SIM
OR
apn123456 giffgaff.com set up access point name if using GiffGaff SIM
up123456 giffgaff password requires a password

- Now create an account on the www.gpslive.co.uk - get a 7 day trial
- email info@gpslive.co.uk with your IMEI for lifetime sub
- Login
- Add object (IMEI) and save
- Any further trackers can be added to the account (email the IMEI to gpslive each time)

less gprs123456 on GPRS economy mode (close GPRS after 5min stationary to save batt/data)
adminip123456 94.229.67.57 10200 configure server IP address/port to upload location to (www.gpslive.co.uk)
fix060s***n123456 frequency with which updates are uploaded to server (every 60 secs)

monitor123456 monitor mode (call SIM card number to listen in) - NB doesn't work for me any more
admin123456 number set up authorised number (needed for shock/movement/overspeed/geofencing) format: +447973100123
lowbattery123456 on Enables low battery alert (ends an SMS which costs)
sos123456 on SOS button sends alert/phones authorised number

EITHER: (if externally powered)
sleep123456 shock standby after 5 mins with shock/movement sensor
OR: (if on batteries)
sleep123456 deepshock deep standby after 5 mins with shock movement sensor

move123456 100 movement alarm - alert by SMS if tracker moved by more than 100m
shock123456 shock alarm - detects vibration and sends SMS alert to authorised numbers
sensitivity123456 1 sets sensitivity of shock alarm (1 most, 3 least)

These settings work for me. I haven't experimented with geofencing or anything like that.

I struggled with a few things - the GPSlive server address/port appears to be printed incorrectly at least once in my manual, but the above is correct. The apn stuff wasn't clear either but trial and error and google sorted it.

Hope that's of some help to somebody. Bear in mind this works on my TK102-nano but may not work on some clones, there seem to be different syntaxes on some models.

Ta NiceCupOfTea - should be enough for me to be getting on with - and if I find anything new/useful - will update and send back.

Cheers,

Does anyone have any problems with the website / IOS app whereby it reports an incorrect location?

Mine is showing that I'm somewhere off the coast of Spain at the moment...

Calling the SIM and the subsequent SMS location is correct however. Strange one...

I had this - looks like the gprs data is not being sent to the server.

Maybe run-through the setup again. Mine started after I ran it through again.

Sorry for bumping page, although after reading through this thread I'm interested in getting this product.

Is the product this one below (£36.99) is there anywhere you can get it cheaper or any models that do the same for cheaper?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/102-NANO-GPS-Tracker-Mag...

And buying the following sim using the same commands (in previous pages of this thread) will work fine?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Giffgaff-Nano-Micro-Stan...

Is the www.gpslive.co.uk website free to use?

What happens when you travel aboard? Will I need to dis activate this tracker to stop getting larger data roaming charges?

Yes that's the correct one, I bought mine direct from Rewire.

You should be able to get a SIM card direct from Giffgaff for free. I believe gpslive is still free, you will need to register the tracker with them.

Anyone bought/used a 'Trackr Bravo' (the small key-fob device?)

http://www.thetrackr-uk.co.uk/product/trackr-bravo...

If so I would be interested to hear your opinions/thoughts - considering buying one and placing it inside my car.

It's "crowd sourced GPS".

Someone with another one of their devices would have to be near your car to be able to sync it's current location, unless you put a phone in there too, in which case, just use the phone as a locator.

Good for tracking yourself/someone/thing with a phone, not much use to track anything else.

Just having a play with a TK102 in SMS mode. When I call it from an Android phone I get the SMS message with position etc but when I call it from an iphone I don't get the SMS messages. I can see the SMSs in the call log on Lycamobile's website but they never arrive at the phone. Any ideas? I am getting other texts on the iphone without issue.

Might be a stupid question, but you have added both numbers into the tracker?
