Just bought myself a blackvue DR380 dashcam and had it wired up today through the 'power magic' unit which hardwires the cigarette lighter into my 12v wiring.

All seems good so far, but I've noticed that the blue/red led on the side of the unit seems to stay on permanently, wont this drain my battery?

Any pointers please! I'm still getting the hang of it!

You have your Blackvue set up so it will run in parking mode. In theory the power magic box should allow a certain amount of drain on the battery and then power down the camera. I don't use power magic or parking mode so I don't know if it actually works.

You can turn off the side ring that flashes red green and blue on start up by going into the settings. I have mine turned off
So they only light up whilst powering up

Been looking at this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00EZ1VCQ6/ref=...

Front and rear cameras (obviously the rear camera will only ever capture audis and BMW X5s), but I think they talk to each other (the rear unit sends video to the front unit to be recorded) over wifi.

I already have a wifi system in the car for tinternet on the move.

Can someone tell me anything about how these Blackvue systems implement wifi ? Is the front unit a wifi base station ? Can I make them BOTH behave as a wifi client (to join the existing wifi network) ??

Not sure about both as clients, but the BlackVue 500 can be set up as a client although I never experimented with mine (car's too far!). Have a look at car-dvr.info, some of the software in the custom firmwares is meant to simplify the setup of it.
