Camera Alert from pocket GPS world is by far the best I've tried. I loaded it into the Tom Tom but it's too dumb and shouts 30 on the motorway because of side roads. Its a lot smarter as a phone app.

If you're concerned about average speed cameras the Road Angel Gem+ is good as it shows your average speed between cameras.

Anyone know if it works on an iPhone 6? The website (http://www.cameralert.com/faqs/) suggests iPhone 5 is the latest?

Also: if you let the subscription lapse, will it work off the old known data (without updates, obviously!)
Thx!

Dunno about fruit phones but yes it will work off any downloaded database.

Still a fan of road angle. The latest Gem has a poor battery though. The Pro Connected was way better in that regard.

Has anyone tried this yet?

http://www.buyinforad.com/?page_id=4&sid=20151...

Inforad K3. It basically takes the form of a USB memory stick that has its own small battery (3 hours or so?), but I plan to stick it into a 12v lighter USB charger and forget about it - so no wiring etc! It works using GPS and its internal database, and simply beeps if theres a fixed camera, mobile camera zone or average speed limit camera zone (and I think the LED changes colour based on which one of the three it is).

Its only £40 on amazon, so I thought I'd give it a try; it arrives tomorrow.

My Dad had one. I used it a few times before getting my Pogo Alert. I wasn't a fan, but that may be because I wasn't fulling in tune with what all the beeps meant.

Well, according to the manual:

Warming up/connecting to GPS: Blinking green LED
System ready: Steady green LED

Certified Camera Zone: Red LED
Possible Camera Zone: Orange LED
Average/SPECs Zone: Alternating Green/Orange LED

If you're approaching the area, the device will beep 3 times. If you're going too fast, it will emit a two-tone alarm.

I have just received it, so I will give it a go...

Update: Its rubbish, it struggled to get and maintain a GPS signal inside the car. I've sent it back.

Sounds like a case of getting what you pay for. I have a Road Angel Gem which looks a bit nasty but works well.

What's the deal with average speed cameras?
When you see the first one you may as well set the cruise at the limit or thereabouts. If you go fast then back-off you will get to the end at the same time as if you did the limit for the whole journey. Or have I got that wrong?

The Road Angel shows the speed limit, current speed and your average through the SPECS. Very useful.

Just like the free Tom Tom Android speed camera app.

I’ve tried several speed camera apps but I’m still to find one that works well and reliably through Bluetooth. I use an IPhone.

I’ve sacked off Road Angel after 14 years with them.

The GEM screen didn’t last. Went so black it was almost impossible to read in daylight. Got replaced, same again.

Then there’s the customer service.

Currently using Cyclops on my phone and think it’s great. Shame the app isn’t CarPlay compatible though.

Same here, used Road Angel products since they came out so a very long time. My Gem+ did the battery and screen failure and the cost to replace once sent back was silly. I've tried most of the phone based apps but don't really like them. I have a TomTom 6000 series that has the cameras etc and it's very good but I still miss the RA. I did get offered a Pure at a discounted price but going by past experience with the Gem I declined.
I like the idea of the Pure but the unit plus subscription isn't cheap although the RA has saved my bacon more times than I can remember in the past.

I found Cyclops to be ok, if a bit over-warning. I think they offer a free 14 day trail and then it's only £3 a year for UK. I don't think it works with Carplay though.

My Road Angel Gem works fine but a bit bulky and ugly. I'll take a look at the new 'Pure'.
