Well after many thousands of miles of near faultless service, my Tomtom One Xl died on me on Sunday, though fortunately just before I got into central London!

So I would like to upgrade to a newer model, but it must be able to take .ITN files that I have made on tyre. I have been told that you can't do this on modern units.

Cheers for any suggestions!

Anybody? All Tomtom have told me is that the only new model that supports Tyre created .itn files, is the Tomtom rider, which is designed for bikes.

So I just need to know which is the last mode to support said files.

I've been looking into this for a while and your information is correct in that it's only the rider series that supports itn loads.

Bit of a bugger but I guess with most cars and mobiles having sat navs they need to find a niche.
Not sure if they have anything else planned so I'm sticking with my trusty 940 till it dies.
I have used tyre software and must admit it's really good and much easier than how we did it in the past. An alternative may be to buy a gar in but I'm not sure what they are doing on loading routes?

I would be tempted to get on ebay and buy a 940 or 1005 v2.

Don't think they do itn in the traditional sense, but both allow imported POI I believe.

It's because of this that i've recently gone from 20 Tomtoms to 30 Garmins!
Can't believe how many people are on the internet complaining about the itn issue and Tomtom just aren't listening.

The units we used (which i still have) are Tomtom 750, which worked well but are now 4 years old and frankly need a map update (at £45 or so).
If you're stuck on Tomtom, then by all means see if you can find something like that.

If, however, you're open to the possibility of moving to Garmin, it's easier than you think.
You can still use your itn files by opening them in TYRE and then saving them as .gpx files.
You can then open a piece of Garmin software (which is free) called BASECAMP, import your .gpx files and then "send to device" with your Garmin plugged in.

Our experience has shown the newer Garmin units to actually be easier to use, much faster to recalculate, and crash much less often than the old Tomtoms.
For £200 you can buy a Garmin with full UK, Europe and North American mapping with lifetime map updates and lifetime traffic.
Of course if you don't need all that there are cheaper options - the main function you NEED to have is called "Trip Planner".

Top advice there. My old Tomtom has been brilliant with only a couple glitches over thousand of miles, but i'm more than happy to change to Garmin, especially with the map updates and traffic.

This one seems ideal for the price.

I bought the Garmin 2599 for £139.99 from Currys the other weekend (it seems to have gone back up to £179.99) - really impressed so far - the voice recognition is a bit hit and miss, but the routing seems ok (it did try and cut a corner through an estate on the way to Snake Pass which would have involved driving through some concrete bollards, but I'll forgive it that as it re-routed very quickly when I turned around!)

It's got some decent features and I like how I can specify a POI on the route (for example if you want to go to a petrol station then continue to your original destination).

Free traffic and map updates for life too.

I should have said I was going to shop around, but that's excellent, cheers!

Halfords really is a complete rip off!

The good thing with Halfords is that they price match.

Was looking at the Tom Tom Go 5000 with the cashback offer, found it on another website cheaper (Tesco's I think) and then showed this to Halfords on my phone to allow them to match the offer.

Meant I got the cheaper price and was also able to claim the Cashback offer from Tom Tom (which Tescos were not part of).

So win win from me (and my Scottish frugalness)

Does this one cover Turkey, does anyone know?
Satnavs appear to have gone backwards. Ancient TomTom still working but new ones seem to get slaughtered by owners.

I shall have a look when I get my Garmin back off a mate smile

Took mine to France last week and it worked well, but I prefer my old Tomtom to be honest. It invented an extra loop through a small town on a route I had made in Tyre, and I don't find it as intuitive either. Also after setting a route while in an underground car park, it really struggled to find GPS signal. Not ideal in Monaco where it is really busy and there are few places to stop!

I expect it will become better with more use though.
