Last year we did a road trip through the USA.

We hired a car and a Gamin sat nav, It was only later we realized we paid £100 for the privilege. But it did work very well and served all our needs.

We are going to do another trip but this time I want to buy one first, Can anyone advise which would be the best for us. The Gamin did everything we wanted i.e bars and restaurants in the area that we stop at.

This may be the last time we do this so I don’t want to spend a great deal of money any advice would be appreciated.

There are several e-bay has anyone used them?

Do you have an iPhone?
Just download TomTom USA/Canada maps from the app store & you'll have them for this & future trips on your phone.

HERE maps from Nokia, download to your iphone/android. Stores the maps in your phone so doesn't use any data abroad. Costs nothing.

Or buy a Garmin with UK maps (£90 for mine) and download USA maps, or anywhere else as required (free if you Google properly) . Used mine all over the world, been faultless.

I recently bought Co-pilot for the US & Canada @ £8 and it worked great, as did the 3 PAYG sim with £20 topup for unlimited internet access. Well worth it for both for hotel bookings and reading reviews.

No we don't have anything technical it took us half the journey to work out the last sat nav.
Ideally I want a sat nav for here and usa so I can work with it before we go.

Navmii is free and works on gps so you can switch off data on your mobile and it will still work, I have UK,USA and Canada. The USA one worked much better than the useless "Always Lost" from the well known hire car provider.

That's exactly what I was about to post. in the USA is brilliant tho you have to remember to input your destination while you have WiFi in the hotel.
