I might buy a 510 or a 500, what's the difference, is it the 510 has an interactive screen?
Also I think the built in traffic means I need to put a phone SIM card in it. If this is correct does the SIM card get "used" and need topping up like a pay as you go phone. Is this is completely wrong could someone enlighten me please. Its all a bit different from my 710 which has just died.....

It pairs with your phone to do the traffic data, so uses up your phone's data allowance.

TomTom Go 51/61 and 510/610 models pair with your mobile phone via bluetooth and use a small amount of data to download traffic information via your mobile phone.

The GO 5100/6100 has the SIM built in - it comes pre-installed. You dont need to do anything the SIM is active for the life of the unit and all data is included in your initial purchase price.

Note that you must have a GO model to get traffic. The START ,models 40/50/60 are not traffic capable and not worth having

Its all on the TomTom website https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/drive/car/#productLin...
