I was wondering what speakers to get in my golf gti. The whole system is factory standard at the moment but i plan to buy a double din unit and upgrade the door speakers (even though they are relatively good already) . Hoping to keep it fairly bassy still but just a better quality of sound output, as the treble isn't so kind to me. it does get distorted at a certain point which isn't very loud. What would your recomendations be? Thanks.

Hello. I would keep the stock ones, I amped mine with 4x 60w RMS and they were surprisingly good. It's the head unit that lets it down. Get a decent head unit, 4 channel amp and a 10" sub with amp, that's all the car needs

Make sure the amp or the head unit have a HPF to remove the bass the main speakers are getting (the sub will have a corresponding LPF to only get bass) as they will sound better not struggling to do too much.

I've had success with one of those underseat subs, but in a much smaller car than a Golf

edit:

LPF low pass filter - lets bass through

HPF high pass filter - lets higher frequencies through

In my setup I added a pair of Infinity 6x9 to the shelf too, that sound system was multiples better than the one I spent £3k on in my 997 10 years later
