I'm looking for an action camera (or two) to record my track days in a minimum of 1080p60 but can't figure out which cameras on the market meet my requirements. The camera will be mounted on the rear anti-roll bar in my Mazda RX-7 and in the future I may get a second camera to mount on top of my steering wheel column pointed at the gauges. What I would really like is the following:

1. 1080p60 minimum

2. image stabilisation to avoid unnecessary shaking as seen in the following videos:

3. As long of battery life as possible, and if not possible then ensure it is easy to change batteries

4. No fish eye effects.

Ideally I would sync these up to an app like TrackAddict or Henry's Lap Timer.

The market is flooded with cameras from the GoPro's to the Sony's to the Garmin's and TomTom's but what are you guys using?

Thanks.

I presume you mean rear roll bar rather than anti-roll bar. tongue out

By default I'd have a look at a go-pro, you can get some excellent mounting systems for them which should help.

If you want to go a bit more substantial, a Racelogic VBOX is the go-to for permanently mounted racing systems. Expensive, but worth it if you're serious about recording/data logging.

Gopro. If its good enough for TV production it'll be good enough for you.
(TG used them a lot in their offerings).

The GoPro's don't have image stabilisation though right? So, the videos might have nice details but will likely look shaky as hell?

Or perhaps I'm thinking about it the wrong way and there is a mount that sucks up a lot of vibrations and movement?

By the way, I meant the rear strut bar which you can see in this photos is covered in plastic at the top of the back of the rear seats.

Image stabilisation impacts picture quality even if you have an expensive camera with optical stabilisation and even on that high end camera its not a magic wand that'll fix really harsh vibration.

Getting the right location to mount the camera makes the biggest difference, then the quality of the mount, then stablisation last.

You want to be picking somewhere that isn't vibrating or resonating under the driving conditions you want to be filming. If you look at most high end in car filming from the big name youtubers like Harris they go for windscreen mounts and those seem to work well.

I wouldn't worry too much about too much about vibration - used Go Pros and bullet cams on our Formula Ford for years with perfect results. In Fact the bullet cam was plonked on some blue tack and cable tied down to the roll hoop with no adverse effects.

My son has recently bought this http://store.driftinnovation.com/uk/drift-stealth-... and did a round at Buckmore Park. Better quality than a Go Pro and looks a lot nicer without any of the crude looking brackets that plague our Go Pros.
