Using OEM GPS Antenna with aftermarket head unit?
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm in the process of replacing my oem head unit and sat nav system and would like to use the car's existing GPS antenna if at all possible (mainly because fitting a second GPS antenna will be a real pain).
My car (2001 Porsche 911 996) currently has a DVD based SatNav system, which I've just pulled out to take a look at. It has a cable running to it separately from the usual car stereo signal wires with what looks like some sort of OEM connector on it. I'm assuming this is the GPS antenna signal?
If so, is there anyway I can use this cable to get a GPS signal to an aftermarket (probably Pioneer) head unit? Will a simple female to male fakra harness work? The ones I've found on eBay all seem to state they're for FM connections - will they carry a GPS signal too?
Thanks for any help offered!
