Right, I'm getting myself tied in knots and looking for some advice from you all! I'd like one front and one rear.

I don't really care if it has a screen or not. I'm not sure of the value of GPS or WiFi...I'd like them to be mostly hidden and would hard wire. I'd also like some kind of parking mode, to catch any dodgy buggers who may "bump and run".

I've ended up with the following list:

Mobius - Small and cheap...no GPS (is it important)...how discreet?
BlackVue DR650GW-2CH
Transcend DrivePro 200 or 220
Street Guardian SG9665GC
Nextbase 512G

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

I don't know a lot about dashcams, but Aldi currently have a GoPro look-alike for €60. I bought 2 this week to try them.

Picture quality seems perfectly good - I already have a genuine GoPro 4, and can't see a big difference in quality on my (fairly crappy) laptop.

Sound quality of the Aldi cams is unfortunately very poor compared with the GoPro. frown

I've had the Mobius for well over a year now - it's tiny and, when fitted behind the rearview mirror it's invisible from the driver's seat - all you can see is the cable disappearing into the headlining.

The mobius is very discreet, very simple and quite cheap. Just make sure you don't buy a fake (yes, they do exist, the mind boggles).

Another plus for the Mobius is that it's modular, meaning you can swap lenses, replace the battery with a capacitor or (possibly more relevant to you) mount the lens remotely via an extension cable.

One vote for the BlackVue DR650GW-2CH - front and back monitoring - and when hard wired with Power Magic Pro saves on a flat battery (saying that left mine @ airport for 2 weeks - battery was fine)

With all of these however limitation is the size of SD card (typically all record on into set size files, with oldest being deleted when card gets full to make room for new file)

So yes car was sat recording for 2 weeks, typically only saves last 48 hrs (dependent upon resolution saved) However the more advanced ones have a bit of logic/motion noise sensors and protects those files when an incident may have occurred. (Blackvue does this)

GPS - pro's and con's - I'm geeky so like to have the feature (also have a cheap y GPS tracker fitted to the Audi) so can see where/how fast etc .... (not going to go into discussion re whether this is a good bad thing ;-) )

Hi Guys

Don't mean to thread hijack but as GeodieSPG mentioned it, can someone recommend a cam specifically for the 'bump and run' stuff? Today I've gone out to the third scratch on my car in the last 6 months from people on my street with a complete inability to park. Not once has a note been left and I really now want to catch them in the act!

Any guidance much appreciated.

I bought 2x Gitup Git1 based on TechMoan review.
You can make it record until the battery goes flat, about 90 minutes after arriving. Front and rear should do it.

The Mobius has Motion-Detection so you can leave it asleep and it will wake up to record when it detects something - it lasts a working week on an external battery pack I have (5500mAh) if there is not much movement. However, that does mean you will only record the miscreant departing, not the actual impact. To get the impact itself you have to leave the camera on all the time recording, which will flatten batteries really quickly.
