Primera P12 CD player alternatives?

I've got a 2004 P12 Primera and the CD player has failed. This was never really a problem, radio or SWMBO was usually enough to keep me engaged. I'm off to the Hebrides for a fortnight this August and I'm wondering how easy it is to either replace the CD player, or if there are any other alternatives?
The Primera forum shows a rather complex operation to replace the CD player, one which involves taking out most of the centre console. Sadly my skills are not up to this. Because of the age of the car I don't want to spend a great deal on this.
Any thoughts or ideas?
