Picked up a hire car this morning, my first exposure to DAB.

Having used Sirius XM extensively in the USA I was hoping for something similar, lots of channels, different genres etc etc... instead I seem to have less than 100 channels of mostly local BBC stuff with the odd National and other special interest station thrown in.

Has this hire car got limited DAB somehow or is this it?

There really isn't masses of choice with UK DAB.

What you can receive will also depend on the region you are in - probably less than 100 options, even in and around London and including the BBC stations.

Radio 6 and Radio X are all that interested me, but reception was sketchy even with a quality setup in a £100,000+ vehicle... frown

My DAB is flawless to be honest, and that is with the standard Skoda Bolero radio.

6music for Craig charles funk & soul show and 5live sports extra for the cricket. Perfect.
I've used it for 8 yrs around the south east and beyond and I rarely lose signal (I don't drive much in London tho). That's using the standard dab on an Audi a6 and a ford smax

I wouldn't say the lack of choice bothers me that much. Most people on the radio are cretinous and annoy me bah humbug

Well after removing dab from the list of "must haves" for the new car, turns out the example I've bought has it anyway.

So far the reception keeps cutting in and out and the old adage of 57 channels and nothing on definitely applies.

Going to investigate unlimited data and internet radio, see how that may work for me.

The signal for the BBC stations seems to be a lot more reliable than for the commercial stations.
