Blaupunct BMW/Rover OEM Headunit

I have a 1998 E36 BMW 318iS which came with the original cassette /radio.
I then bought a used Rover CD/tuner head unit ( Model is 7 640 263 342 ) which looks like this
I installed it, but then realised that it was only working on one speaker ; ie if the balance was turned fully to the LH speaker there was no sound. The speakers are fine ( they worked OK with the OEM cassette /tuner) so I was wondering if there would be a simple fix for this. I bought the unit off the bay, but did not fit it until weeks after purchase, so I am stuck with it !
It does look correct in the car, ( I shall blank out the Rover badge !) and as I do not use this car that much, and it it has a loud Miltek S/S exhaust on) I am prepared to put it in the car, but I would like it to work properly!
If it's not a simple fix, is there anywhere that could repair it ?
I realise that it is not worth much, and repair would be uneconomic, but I would like it in the car!
