And now you can turn on Hammond, May and Clarkson voices to be directed by if that sort of thing floats your boat.....
So far it just been May giving directions. He also claims to do most of the work

Going through Birmingham town centre the other day at evening rush hour, Waze came up with a route change that took me off the A38/A4400 and down loads of tiny streets to save 4 minutes. The stress of all the tiny roads with oncoming traffic in the wet and the dark just wasn't worth it.

It also seems to consider crossroads, where the main road crossing yours has right of way, as a quick way through. It doesn't seem to understand crossing two-way traffic in rush hour is near impossible.

That said, it was my first negative experience of Waze and it has helped me superbly in the past.

I don't know why there isn't more customisation available with these apps.
In this case there should be the equivalent of a Don't Take Me Through Hell To Save Me 5 Minutes option.
And many more similar preferences.

I find it quite obvious to tell it's doing that by the width of the streets on the map, its easy to see what is 'main' and what's not.

Yes. I'd like to tell it not to do that.

I'd like it to warn me about width restrictions and speed bumps.

Indeed. My old TomTom unit used to just love directing me down lanes with the door mirrors brushing the bushes both sides (but a two way road !) while on hols in the West Country.

I use it daily and this is my pet peeve too. Taking me down London side roads just to save a couple of mins on the main road which has traffic just isn't worth it. There should be a sliding scale on the aggresiveness of the routing algorithm. So if you really need to save time it could take you down all the side roads, but unless there is a huge traffic build up, it would just stick to the main routes.
