I borrowed a VW Transporter recently with DAB Radio. All good apart from the fact it will only find BBC stations. We now have a very similar problem with the TV at home. We have other DAB radios that will find loads of non BBC stuff.

So what the heck has happened?

I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Maybe I should complain about political bias?

mine has different "Channels" that you switch between to get different blocks of stations.

Took me ages to work it out as I normally listen to 6 music and wanted to switch to listen to a football match on Talk Sport and it was in a different channel.

The vans gone back but it's nearly as bad on the TV.

I'd send the TV back as well then.

My pioneer unit seems to pick up everything from the BBC channels, to local and national stations.
So long as I can get BBC R3 & R4 and Union Jack I'm happy though.

Kind of surprised by this, I've got DAB in a MK7 Golf and it's great, rarely loses signal. When I got it I assume it would be rubbish, but I've been genuinely surprised, I can get all sorts of non BBC channels too.

There was some sort of frequency change for DABs last year as my Juke had to go in for a recall fix as the DAB stopped picking up any stations and they had to 'retune' it.

I was going to say it might be worth triggering a re-tune or re-scan so the DAB system can do a fresh scan and pick up any changes or new stations that may not have been available at the location it was last 'tuned'.

Wife has a new polo with a DAB system in and it finds stacks of stuff.........much better than the ones I have at home even with an external antenna.

Serves me right for living in the sticks !

The quality of pick up is dependant upon the hardware that's used and there's a degree of variability on this.

As a broadcast medium, it's never taken off as was intended and online is fast overtaking it in terms of the way the majority of people access radio.

I connect my mobile to the radio for some stuff while out driving but that's only good if you have a signal.

Must admit I use internet radio on mine via my phone a fair bit , but yes, signal coverage needs to be good.

I had the same problems with a VW Dab, it would hardly find anything. I went into the channel listings and there they all were, added as presets and all is well.

According to wikipedia it's very limited abroad. Countries in dark blue are the ones that have it.

Nothing in France, Italy, Ireland.
