Rns510 retro mk 5 golf

Ive had an RNS510 retro fitted to my mk5 golf
It all works well and i have nav directors and audio pages on the hiline display.... except SOMETIMES i don't
The compass still displays on the map screen so the original factory gps is connected ok
Ive had two 510s and they were both the same so i dont think it can be a faulty head unit
It can be 'fixed' by a three finger reboot
I thought it might be a timing thing between unlocking the doors and starting but that theory is not quite holding up
Anyone had similar 510 problems and or ideas for fixes
