Now that I am doing a lot more miles I've decided that it might be a good idea to get a dashcam. I want one which is subtle and barely noticeable. I know nothing about them but ideally would like quite a good one.

Any recommendations and what do I look for when buying one ? Any good brands that stand out ?

Thanks

I've got a professionally installed Thinkware F750 with Front & Rear cameras.

Picture/sound quality is very good, my only challenge with it is that it rarely picks up a GPS signal so I can't use any of the additional features (speed camera alerts, lane departure etc).

I'm on my 2nd unit which is still can't connect so I suspect it is the car that it causing the issues (both units have only ever picked up the GPS once!).

Well worth it if you're doing a lot of miles.

It depends on budget and what you want.

I had a Mini 0806 which was cheap. I wanted a very discrete unobtrusive device which had decent HD quality and this seemed to fit the bill. It worked for a while and the footage was good but then my laptop stopped reading the device (presumed a driver issue) which I never resolved. I figured if I needed to review the footage I'd buy a card reader. That was before it literally fell apart in the car. I woke up last week, jumped in the car to find it hanging down from it's mount. The plastic seemed to have come away somehow so I ripped it out.

Just ordered a BlackVue DR450 unit. I don't want GPS although it has that option, just a slim discrete good quality device and these always come out well in reviews. It also has it's own software to view the footage. At £129, it's in the mid range price bracket but the better BlackVue's have cloud footage reviewing (built in Wi-Fi) and other stuff which I just didn't need. I'll give you a better review when it comes and I have played about with it!
