They're not designed to be mounted upside down on the dashboard, they're meant to be mounted on the windscreen with the mounting point at the top.

Did it also come with a t-shirt that said 'My brother went to Australia and all I got was this crummy t-shirt. (And a dash cam)'

What he said.

You get a much better field of view for the camera that way as well.

Common issue - sounds like you've set location to Australia, select GB and it should rotate the screen for you

My dashcam is tucked behind the mirror in the middle, much better view and almost unnoticeable from the drivers seat.

Cannot do that as it will not fit behind the rear view mirror and if it did then it would hang too low for my vision as I am very tall

Ended up on the bottom left of the screen where it doe not block my view

Managed to secure and hide wires so pleased with that

Of course you could also just record everything upside down and invert it if and when you need the footage.

This. Who cares which way up it's recording when you can flip it in software easily afterwards... and even if you couldn't, it'd still be just as useful in the event of a crash.

Mounting at the bottom of the screen will give a very restricted impression of what you can actually see happening around you from your eye level, mind you. A common "problem" on motorbike cameras where the camera is mounted to the bike and the biker does something that looks suicidal, as the rider can see over traffic/hedges/etc when the camera can not.
