I had a quick search on here first but could turn up anything related but I have started to have problems with my previously very reliable Garmin 660.

It has "lost satellite reception" a number of times in the recent past, usually at critical moments and has also had an intermitent problem "Aquiring Satellites" all of a sudden.

The software is up to date as far as I know (recently updated) and it hasn't been abused in any way.

Is this a common problem or is there something I can do to sort this out ?

Many thanks in advance.

I had this problem a couple of months ago with my then 2 + year old 360. After installing all the updates (Standard IT phase 1 fix) as suggested by Garmin, I ended up sending to them for repair/replacement.

Just to square the circle as they say:

I rang the Garmin helpline thingy and they talked me through various things which didn't work so I rang them back and they looked on their system and said "that they couldn't see any reason why it wasn't still in warranty" and to send it back to them.

They gave me the relevant number to stick on the packaging and told me to post it back by registered mail to make sure it was signed for. I did all this (cost about £2.20 in postage) and waved bye bye to my Garmin.

Less than 10 days later (it could have been a week, I wasn't paying attention) and a newly refurbished model arrives by courier. Whole thing works a treat.

So, big respect to Garmin - excellent custormer service.

Seems a common theme. My F-in-L had a Tom Tom and that gave up the ghst locating satellites and had to go back. No problems with the replacement.

I have a Route 66 Mini. It was never that quick at locating satellites but it was a nice enough unit with only the odd glitch on routes. After 6 months in which I only used it 3 times, it also suddenly had problems locating the satellites.

I had a slow e-mail exchange with them and ended up formatting the SD card, downloading an updated GPS locator file, transferring files and updating all the maps and finally downloading updated software - took 4 hours of my valuable time and it still can't find the satellite so now I have to return it to Halfords to send back for repair.

What is it with this modern technology? My computer only recently went down with a motherboard and power supply problem. It seems they don't exactly trip over themselves to limit your inconvenience.
