Ok so I got a new TomTom 740Live 10 days ago to upgrade against my previous GO700 - and generally the unit is great (HD traffic especially), but I've found the following bugs / issues so far (in order of priority) :-

1) Screen/audio 'pause' - whilst in use navigating a route the screen (and sometimes the audio) will simply stop updating, until you realise that it's way out of date. If you press the screen to go into any menu and then back out again all resumes perfectly. Very annoying and breaks the trust relationship when you keep on having to check that the screen has updated etc on motorways...

2) Volume - the sound is very distorted even at 15% volume, and the auto speed adjust is working the wrong way round (louder at low speed, quieter at high speed)

3) Stuttering on road numbers - for example A418 is pronounced "A four hundred and teen" rather than "A four hundred and eighteen"

4) The unit doesn't like being in the cold - if left in the car glove box over night it won't power up at all until it's physically warmed up (takes about 10 minutes), all my previous tomtoms were fine being left in the car overnight

5) The unit has locked up once already - requiring the 'hold the power on button down for 15sec' reset (much improved over the old 'hunt the paper clip' reset)

6) I've also had the unit do a complete 'soft' reboot whilst in use - it resumed the route fine just was a pain waiting for the minute whilst it rebooted...

I have the following versions :-
App 8.204
Map 815.2003
Voice 'Kate'

Has anybody else experienced these at all?

I can't help as I've got a 730T and don't have any problems with it.

However, may I suggest you try the YouNav forums which is a much better source of info on all things satnav.

Yeah I use there a lot but was looking for any additional thoughts?

Also does anybody have a support contact email address for TomTom as sending questions via their support web portal just equates to a black hole frown

1. My son is using a 940, and is not having these problems. His software version is 8.3 - you probably need to update the application to the latest version.

2. I am using a 920. On updating the application to 8.3, I started to experience the problem you report of spoken road names and numbers causing stuttering/missed speech. I am also using Kate. I think this is a problem with the current application version.

3. I have several times used the support service via the Tomtom website. I have always had prompt (office hours only) efficient and helpful support. They send out emails or will phone, but ask you to contact them via the website.

Thanks :-
1 - already at latest version and checked weekly
2 - relieved it's not just mine
3 - you got some hotline to the CEO? seriously what method as I've never had any reply at all from any of the 'contact us', or 'additional question' forms on the web site..

Great product but shoddy development and hidden support frown

Agreed, they do not test their software well enough. But honestly, I have used their support several times in 2008, and have always had a prompt and helpful response.

I feel sure you must have been looking in the right place, but in case you have not look here:

http://www.tomtom.com/support/support.php?ID=2&amp...

It gives you the opportunity to phone, which I think works. Apart from that, follow the instructions to do a little automated problem solving, state that you have not solved the problem, and it lets you post your question. I have always received a response within a few working hours.
