South Africa maps/which TT?

A family member is coming up to UK for Christmas and I wanted to buy her a Tom Tom sat nav for Christmas and download a map of South Africa.
Seems that the map is downloaded from TT Home onto your PC and then transferred onto a blank SD card slotted into the TT unit? Is my understanding correct?
Just want a basic TT sat nav with a SD or MMC slot...don't need all the bells and whistles as it will be used in S.A.
Any ideas of the right model to go for?
