Info re buying a 2nd hand Tom Tom?
Discussion
I've got a Go910 and I think it's really good. I hate the shape, though, which is necessiated by having a hard drive inside it. The shape makes it impossible to carry it in your pocket.
Prices of refurbished models make it only worthwhile buying second hand if its very cheap. I think they have leapfrogged this model, but the value for money is reasonable. Having used it to go to Italy in August, I have no hesitation saying it's a good investment.
Make sure you get all the paperwork and software from your seller. I would ask for an original receipt. Manufacturer's tend to ask for proof of purchase if you have to get a repair. Maps do go out of date due to geographical changes. I bought a new updated map download last week, as they're offering 30% off during the winter. I also subscribe to the safety camera updates.
I did have some issues with my previous iPAQ Travel Companion with TomTom Navigator6 and the support they gave me was really absolutely fantastic. TomTom even phoned me and talked me through a problem.
The worst that can be said is that you do need to look and listen to your SatNav with some critical intelligence, rather than blind obedience. Plus, some of the pronunciations given by the voice synthesiser can be a bit irritating. Sort of a Dutch-English-Stephen-Hawking twang to the sounds of some of the words. If you imagine those sorts of mangled vocalisations superimposed on Italian place names, and the results can sound a bit dubious.
Hope this is helpful.

New maps are around £50-£65 so in my opinion i would look at www.totalpda.co.uk at the refurb ones. They are out of stock of the 910 but then it is very old. There has since been, 920, 930 and now the 940. All manufacturer refurbished ones from total pda come with most uptodate map guaranteed.
Last week i got the Tomtom 720 for £115 delivered, downloaded the latest map which were released last month and it is brilliant. It also has 12 month warranty so peace of mind.
Have a look, i was amazed how cheap some them are.
