Solar glass problems re Tom Tom Sat Nav

I have an Audi A8 with solar glass hence I only get my Tom Tom Sat NAv to work 50% of the time. I bought an external aeriel (Tom Tom - with no instructions) but that seems to make it worse. When I bought the car there was a grey Tom Tom plastic disc stuck to the windscreen behind the rear view mirror. I noticed it was magnetic as the end of the exteral aeril stuck to it. But still I get a worse reception with the external aeriel than without it. Any clues PLEASE. TA

Have you got the external antenna mounted EXTERNALLY, or somewhere else in the car that is not got the sun protection glass?

The magnetic pad might simply be to attach the TomTom to.

BTW, why does your external antenna not have any instructions? Are you sure it's a kosher (as in genuine rather than Jewish food) one?
