As the title says, I'm looking to replace the single DIN cd/radio and the cubby hole beneath in my Subaru Forester with a double DIN satnav with a decent radio that will take an Ipod connection. A large touch screen with 3D maps is essential and I'm used to a dvd-based satnav which was so good, quick and accurate. So a DVD one or a very good flash memory-based one, preferably updateable at not too much cost, don't need camera locations (have a Road Angel Connected), UK-only maps would be fine. The budget is flexible. I expect to have to replace the speakers to get a decent sound.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi I recently purchased a Kenwood DNX5220BT double din unit to fit into my Porsche 968, it does the lot! Ipod control (I use an Iphone) with album artwork, and video displayed as well. The SatNav section is Garmin based so regular updates of the maps and software are downloadable. it plays CD Mp3 WMA, Divix, and DVD films. I foolishly asked for a six pack cd player to go with the unit, and the guy in the store looked at me strangely saying "why?", the unit can play 100's of tracks via the Iphone, or just record MP3 music onto a blank DVD disc , and you have yourself 100 or so albums on board the car ! Duh, so a no brainer for me.

Very impressed with the unit so far, I used to have a DVD based system in my Type-R, so I wanted the same big screen and clear 3d maps style of the Honda kit, but the extras with the Kenwood far outweigh the Honda's on-board system. I understand Kenwood have just 'updated' this model, so you could get some good discounts, I pay'ed around £650 for the unit

Thanks for that and very timely. I've just spent ages looking at various units and was considering that one. It's a nightmare trying to make sense of what's good and what isn't, even on user review sites you get one guy saying it's brilliant and another saying the same model is crap.
So thanks for some recent real world experience.
Just one thing, presumably you can listen to the radio/ipod and use the satnav at the same time? If so, does the unit mute the music to give you directions?

I've got a Pioneer Avic-X3, it's a single DIN unit but has a flip out screen. It has a touch sensitive screen and iPod control.

It allows you to search by postcode, address or point of interest and covers all of Europe on two DVD's. I've found it to be an excellent unit, although it's not cheap.
