one ONE XL is now just the XL, a new slimmer case but the same basic unit.

Hi Matthew,
thankxs for the quick reply.

I think mine had a sim card slot and more memory?

I was thinking of using it in Canada, can I upload a map or does it come on a SIM

new ones have a fixed capacity memory, no expansion allowed (there is just 1 mini USB connector on the whole thing, guess they are saving money on making them and also it means that anyone who wants to upgrade either buys a GO model or upgrades at a later date) which is a bit unfair really but they sell like hotcakes regardless, most people dont mind.

I think (although I dont really have much experience with Tomtom Home) that if you went for a Europe model (with the extra memory, over 2gb I think it is) then you could use the home software to remove the european maps and replace them with the Canadian map, and then switch back when you require, the UK version will not have enough capacity without taking the UK off (which I suppose you could do but it's a pain really)

I work part time for Halfords whilst at uni (no i'm not a monkey...I think!) and we had the UK at £143 or so...european upgrade is not much extra at the moment +£5 or something, the only problem is that our head office have had a spat with tomtom and are holding back on buying them until they give more margin, a stalemate at the moment which will benefit neither party, so dont rely on your local store having many, certainly there are none at all within Chester/The Wirral and North-East Wales!

Crap really, how can they tell us to continue selling (and we are doing VERY well as a company at the moment) if we dont have any of the main selling satnav range (we do have the more pricy ones, but they are not as popular in general). anyway I digress.

Hi mat,

thankxs man,

I went into Halfords and say an XL,
it had only 32Meg of memory

however TT support said the below

The TomTom XL's come with 1GB or 2GB memory, and the TomTom One's come with 512MB, 1GB or 2GB internal memory. The map of Canada and Alaska is 138.1MB and the map of USA and Canada is 826.3MB. So if you buy one of these devices, you can make a backup of the current map onto your computer and then remove it from the device. You will then have enough room to install the USA/Canada map (depending on the capacity). If you want to know about map sizes you can visit our map shop at this link www.tomtom.com/maps. If you have any further queries, please contact us.

so a bit lost

I need an XL with 1gig

I'm getting so lost I may just buy a second hand TT ONE XL
but its nearly between £90-£140 odd, so I'd prefer to buy a new one if I can

DONT want to spend twice or find I dont hav the mopmery to upgrade the mamp

frown
